Have to cancel our Christmas Eve party.

The politicians are why this is politicized. Period. I’ll never get over this.

And you and I are waffling on the booster for much the same reasons. We have a high risk member in the family. He’s already faced down ICU once with this. We share custody of kids. Giant fucking Petri dishes of kids. I took the jabs last time to reduce how much viral load I might be carrying, infectious time, etc. Then we practically had to break his fucking arm to get vaccinated ( not a principle thing….he’s absolutely high risk).

Now, I don’t know if I will bother. I no longer worry about my parents. They are double vaccinated and boosted, as they should at their age.

If the one high risk in the family won’t get boosted himself I’m just not sure I want another jab for something that preliminary data and logic tells me is weakening in severity.

And, back to ultimate point, I waffle so much because the science is there. Not what was initially promised, but it is there. But, short of a family member we care about, why am I going to take some high horse on others not getting the jab when I have a serious debate myself.

In my case, 2 of the people I was most concerned about actually ended up getting Covid, one of them twice. Both said that have had worse colds.

that's good

not everyone was that lucky

why take the chance?

and they should be concerned if they don't want to get it and spread it to someone who is at risk.
That at risk person should be double vaxxed and boosted. Full stop.

Looks like my friend may have taken a turn for the better. Talked to him on the phone for a minute. He has to take about 3 small breaths to get a sentence out, and then he goes on a coughing spasm. Sounds terrible and said he needs 10 to 20 minutes to catch his breath from walking 20 steps to the bathroom. Said he has to take a break about halfway through that walk. I really just hope he doesn't have permanent issues related to this shit.

I fully agree with you on the messaging and handling of the disease. I also think that keeping the ship from patrol is more of the same bungling and is in fact counterintuitive to the purpose of mandating the vaccine for the military.

Most of the comorbidities effected by covid are a disqualifier for military service so there are not nearly as many as you think. There is an easy workaround for anyone that has one(TDY) and replacing them if necessary.

This is where bungling the messaging and handling of covid comes into play. Vaccine mandates that the military are under are supposed to eliminate this very issue of readiness, not by eliminating cases but by eliminating the severe effects of the disease. On a ship at sea, full of vaccinated crewmembers that are relatively young and free of comorbidities, isolation for a positive test is outlandish because it is diametrically opposed to the mandate justification.
I get it. I get all the disgruntlement over this. Fuck the politicians politicizing it on both sides.

Fuck the left for saying mask up and distance and then throwing parties that are anything but. Fuck the right for bashing the vaccine all the while getting it.

It’s theater. It’s kabuki. It’s not logical policy for public health.

The USS Milwaukee canceled a deployment because the 100% vaccinated crew had an outbreak. This after the mandate forced out sailors that would not vaccinate because they were in danger of getting and spreading the virus ... we are in agreement on the value, or lack thereof, of using cases as a metric.
Shit is being cancelled left and right over breakthrough cases right now.

You literally have to try to not know about it.

Not good, but promising that it might not be getting worse. Here’s hoping.

You can come back from this level with some time. Hopefully that’s it. I’ve heard testimonial last night of ICU delirium. Holy fuck that’s a fresh hell!

if they can be, I agree...but what if the doctor says they shouldn't?
Then that sucks. If they have some immuno compromised issue that negates getting the vaccine they have tough choices to make. And, again, that totally sucks.

But we can no longer change everything for these instances that suck.

I think there is a personal responsibility everyone has regarding COVID and the vaccine and the risks they are willing to take.

however there are many who don't want to take that responsibility and also don't respect others for the responsibility they feel they need to take.

and that is hard to manage

He is going on 3 to 4 weeks now.
