Smart won't want to play other teams. He is too much of a control freak. We do 1 v. 1. Hell, we want our 1s going against our 1s, not against some crap school like KSU, GaSouthern, or GaState. Our 2s and 3s are better than their 1s, and he's wants our guys to go against the best.

This would be over:
- The minute one of the big boys loses to a crap school in spring.
- The minute someone gets hurt because the crap school takes it seriously.
- A fight breaks out.

Plus, G day is a time for UGA fans, especially those who normally can't afford to come to Athens, to get a chance to get in the stadium. Don't want to give up 10,000 seats or more to another school.

it won't be an actual game.. it's still is a scrimmage..or at least that's what I'm thinking.. no need for kickoffs or punt returns.. just schools ready to put in some work.. those schools are good enough for the regular season but not a scrimmage?

Exactly ... Smart wants a controlled environment. He wants his 1s against 1s, not some less talented players from Kennesaw State or the like.

lol don't they already do that in scrimmages during spring football? UT has a team scrimmage every week.. then they play the same spring game which is just open to the public with all the bells and whistles

So does UGA and every other team in CFB. But G Day, like your spring game, is the final and more formal scrimmage. Why share all that with another school? Our 1s and 2s and 3s will get better competition against each other, and we can control it better. Smart is a total control freak ... he isn't going to let that go.

You guys probably aren't hearing much of this and the chances of it getting traction are slim but Hugh Freeze has made an argument to change the spring format which is boring and stupid with an actual Jamboree-type game. For example, Bama would play Troy and Auburn vs UAB with rules in place to protect QBs and such.

The big argument is that your team's chances of injury go down 50% because not a 100% of your players are on the field at all times.

Hopefully, other coaches will jump in on this and give it some traction.

Would Bama still be able to schedule Troy in November though?

I don't know if we charge, but if we did it's like $5 and it goes to charity. I know I went to Bama's A Game or whatever they called it and we paid a nominal fee and they gave it to charity. I mean 80,000 at $5 raises $400K. That doesn't hurt anyone and helps a lot.

Technically yeah but there are arguments this is a bad idea for both UAB and Troy because it would pretty much assure they would never get a real game and that there is no way Auburn or Alabama come to them in opposite years.

Worse would be Western Michigan beats Michigan in spring game. That's where it becomes a lose lose.
