Hurricane Ida

What time they getting to your place?
They aren't in a flood area so they are riding it out. Main worry for them are any tornadoes this thing spawns.

Not being in a flood area is a super good thing. I’ve watched people on FB telling complete strangers to get out…..when they have no clue what that stranger has to tie them to their area.

I’ve never faced a monster like this….but I have had some “stay or bug out” decisions I had to face in the past (Dorian was the last one that was close to a decision). It’s not always so easy.

I don’t know their exact location (and not asking) but I would caution to be prepared for not just tornados but straight like winds from this one too.

Thanks. They moved north of Baton Rouge near St. Francisville which is good just due to the additional distance from the coast. They will definitely get TS force winds and crossing fingers not worse than that. They have a whole home generator hooked up to the natural gas supply. Main concern is trees.

Looks like the models are backing off some on expected intensity at landfall. Most pointing to Cat 3 instead of the Cat 4. Hoping it sucks in some dry air right before landing to weaken her.
They are indeed backing up a little. I’m not sure why yet.

Just watched a microwave loop of surface structure. As soon as she came off Cuba and hit that warm bath water it looked like a turbo button was hit.

There’s a lot more convection wrapping into the eye wall and starting to stack up. Not good, but expected.

By this time tomorrow we will have a pretty clear read on what this will be. Today is a big day to watch that. She’s riding that warm water eddy in the Gulf now. I still think we see 140 on approach, but I do hope to see that slight slow down right before landfall that often happens. It’s at least some reprieve.

Fair points. I see surge getting up some rivers towards Baton Rouge, but not all the way. That won’t be an issue.

Main concern I would have from there is indeed the winds. Note the below was from last nights track….she will wiggle some and change this….but it highlights that the winds will carry well in land (like Laura did last year).

These are also knot readings….so they are a little higher in mph. Could easily be solid Cat 1 through that area. It’s not the “sexy” 140mph….but I’ve been through a solid Cat 1…..no picnic.

Trees and power outages will be the big thing. The generator is smart and will negate one of those.

He grew up in Louisiana...he probably knows a thing or two about hurricanes by now.

@Bayou Tiger
You buggin out soon?

Nah. I am going to ride it out like a man. haha

Seriously though....I'm not in an area that floods. I developed the neighborhood I live in and my lot is 10' above flood stage. In fact, according to the topo maps I'm in the highest portion of the area shown in local flood zones. If I ever flood....the entire area will be under water. So the only thing I need to worry about is trees falling or branches on roof....but the only trees on my property are ornamental trees in flower beds and a few young Japanese elms in the backyard.

Not worried about power going out because I have a generator and plenty of devices for cooking outside under the covered patio....as long as the cover doesn't get blown away!

It's not the time the hurricane passes over that sucks....it's the many days without power after the hurricane has weakened and moved on that sucks.

Oh well....bring it on Ida! You fucking bitch!!!

Just remember, no ladders when you start cleaning up

This situation I could work with too. You’ve got a good set up for this.

Not that I’m saying you should….I would only end up boarding up the windows. Enough shit will be airborne and I wouldn’t want the storms win to get in an under my roof.

Hopefully the power situation won’t be extremely long term….generator or not.

Good luck.

Why did I get a this vision of you as Lieutenant Dan as I read your last two sentences.

At the risk of seeming like I give a shit, stay safe, BT, and please let us know you're ok when you can.

And best of luck to anyone who live in the area, or has family and/or friends in the area.

I got people in the seventh Ward. They're just dipping over to the west bank.

That’s hilarious. And maybe not apt anymore. Have you checked wood prices around you? They’ve been plummeting.

None the less….I’ve been laughing at these jokes for months. I have plenty of time to laugh as there was no fucking way I was buying wood for any projects.

Hang in there today….not sure where in LA you are, but she had jiggled east a little so hopefully that takes some intensity out for you.

Went to bed it was 105mph I think….wake up to 150 and 155 expected on landfall. This is what I worried about with the development opportunities in the Gulf.

This is not going to be good at all…..

I'm in between BR and NOLA, so right in the path. She's heading straight for me.....

Oh-oh, here she comes!
