again, it's not at all pressing. The switch isn't really used.No shit.
Once I found that issue it would have been fixed ASAP. It would have driven me nuts if I didn't.

I also have an extra switch since the light/fan I installed works on a remote rather than 2 power switches, so the middle switch is capped.
When I remodeled my house a few years back I changed all the ceiling fans to remote controlled units. Horrible mistake! Same issue. Every room with a ceiling fan(8) originally had a separate switch for the light and for the fan. Now after installing the fans, the switch that was for the fan does nothing. The remote now controls the light, the fan, all the fan speeds.
The problem is now we have 8 remotes that all look the same and you have to have the remote to turn the light on in the room sometimes depending on how the light was turned off.
If the light was turned off with the remote....it has to be turned back on with the remote!
Needless to say I'm fixing to have them wired back to switches...will use pull chain to change speed of fan and will no longer need remotes, which in reality, are more trouble than they are worth.
no no no
I learned last time I was replacing switches in the kitchen recently and bought me an idiot stick!
also I have a volt meter to check if any wires are hot in there.
I'm pretty good at this stuff.
First things first, always verify that the idiot stick and meter are functioning correctly using a known voltage source before using it. Just check it against an outlet that something working is plugged into.the lights turn on and off from the main switch where I enter the kitchen, I am really in no rush to fix this one, to be honest.
but it's still a problem
Also be on the lookout for split circuit outlets, if your house is older. Back in the day of putting pennies behind glass fuses, it was fairly common to cut the metal conductor along the side of an outlet and bring power from another circuit to keep from overloading a circuit. I have ran into that one more than once in both industrial and residential settings. .I got a little buzz because I didn't turn of the right breaker when working on a light switch a couple months ago. Thought I had turned off the right breaker since the switch right next to it was off, but I guess they went to separate breakers.
I don't think this one will be the same way, but it isn't high on my to do list right now
I completely disagree with you on all points. Pull chains are deprecated.
I'm talking practicality son. You have all of what, one fan remote? Try 8 that are all the same brand and look the same and then get back to me.
I’ve been “grabbed” and you are 100% correct if someone else hadn’t been there I’d be dead.I pride myself on being a jack of all trades in that I have experience working on a lot of things and am mechanically inclined so I can also learn new things quickly. This has served me well throughout my life as I was able to do many things for myself without the need to pay someone else to do it.
But one thing I've never been comfortable doing is electrical work. Electricity is something I just can't wrap my mind around enough to trust it. Oh I know all the safeguards and the need to disconnect the breakers on the circuits you are working on and all that.
I've gotten "grabbed" by electricity before to the point I just knew it was over....until someone came by and "knocked me loose" from electricity's death grab. If any of y'all know what I'm talking about, you know what it's like.
When it "grabs" you...there is no letting go. You have to be knocked, pushed, tackled or something to get you loose.
Took one time for me to realize I don't know enough about electricity to ever fuck with it again. I may change a lightbulb. If the work requires removing an electrical cover, it's a job for someone else.
this thread was just meant to mock @Illustrious Potentate's "I got a snitch problem" thread, but thank you everyone for their input
if I never repair it, I can never get electricutedThat's how it started, but now we are trying to save your life gog dammedit
When I was a little kid, like maybe I was 6 or 7, I used to love to grab the electric fence that my dad had around all of our chicken pens. One time I grabbed it and couldn’t let go. My dad had to knock my hand off with a piece of a 2x4. Pissed all over myself and got a good ass whipping. Then a couple years later when my brother was maybe 2, I tricked him into grabbing the fence. He didn’t get grabbed, but he cried and told on me and I got an even better ass whippingI’ve been “grabbed” and you are 100% correct if someone else hadn’t been there I’d be dead.
I will change a light fixture myself (with someone else in the room) but after that I’m calling in a pro.
if I never repair it, I can never get electricuted
noThis is what we are worried about.
