I hate 2020 ... Newman QB at UGA opting out

lol.. my gif was the standard Kool Aide spin that a possible 3rd string QB is really good and should do just as well based on sources that $9.95ers put out..

I get all the VIP/$9.95er info too.. Texas has like 4 paysites, but the board I frequent spoils them in the threads. So I don't pay for any of the content. I'm mostly on that board due to recruiting since they get very detailed with evaluations and such. Mostly concentrate in the state of Texas which is why I get along well with @Romeo212000 when we discuss prospects.

Again I wasn't attacking you, just that it's the same kool aide spin paysites put out.. where the backups will surprise..
I am not familiar with that gif.

I think UGA is in a different situation with our backups. First, we didn't really have a holdover starter - Newman was a transfer, and while I do believe he would have been really good, we don't know that. If you want to hear that he wasn't going to be good, ask any UF fan. If Daniels is cleared, he is a former 5* who started for a year at USC before getting injured - ACL. That's not your typical "backup" that might be better ... he's damn good if he's healthy. Now, Mathis would be the proverbial "backup" we hope would be good. Even so, he was a 4* with a great offer sheet. His injury was, of all things, a brain injury from which he has recovered. So, it's not an arm, or joint issue, and so long as his brain is cleared, he would be as good as any other top 250 4* who was committed to tOSU and had offers from all the big boys.

So, I get the fact that some people aren't sure where we are on QBs, but that was already true with Newman. Again, ask any Gator. Like any team who loses a 3/4 year starter, you have to break in a new one. This isn't a bad year to do that - Bama has a decent placeholder QB, and an unproven but really talented freshman. Same with OU. Clemson obviously has Sunshine. UF has Trask, but he isn't the next coming of Burrows which is what they are hoping. Fields is irrelevant to the issue with tOSU on the sideline. You guys have an experienced guy, which could be good for you. Otherwise, there just aren't a lot of really good experienced QBs this year for teams that are in the natty hunt.

I know of one other gobucks at OSU while I was in school, let alone other gobuckses in the history of email.
.edu and his middle name is Skyler. But i heard someone say that the names stay in their system for five years. Also heard he was at their scrimmage the past few days? So who actually knows. If I had to put money on it, I would say its a whole lot of nothing.

That's how their email is? Mine was my last name.674. I assumed universities, especially large state universities, used a name/number system since they would regularly have duplicates.

Mine was first letter of first and middle name and then last name. Only had my middle name in mine because my brother has same first letter in first name and was there a few years prior.
Not sure how clemson resets emails, considering I’m still using my old school email.

Yeah, like you said, they probably remain active for 5 years or something.

Which makes sense... If this was a regular student that took a break from school, they'd leave them listed for a bit before scrubbing.

Anyway, he's obviously not in the portal, and it wouldn't make sense if the B1G reverses course.

I can’t stand Auburn only bds. The homerism is over the top and I’m not untested in a 20 page dialog on the left guards first step.

I learned years ago to let recruiting happen and not play too close attention because it only causes anxiety. I’m fine with learning about players when they commit and I want to know top prospects and how they are leaning going into signing day.

oh yeah, recruiting isn't for everyone. But I'm a big fan of TXHSFB, so it's cool to read about these players. Not all of them will be recruited to a P5 school but it's still pretty cool to see them do well at a G5 school.

Also like to see how some players are rated as a high 4 star or even 5 star after their sophomore seasons.. then end up being high 3, low 4 stars at the end of their senior seasons. Visa versa as well.

What pisses me off is when everyone but Rivals has Auburn as 18 in their team rankings and Rivals has ranked 33rd (of course Bama is 1 and no one else has them ranked there). That’s some serious BS that I decided I’m not going to waste my time on. I’ll check stuff about once a month real quickly and get out quick. It’s just not healthy.

There was a time I would follow big prospects on Twitter and then one day I was like WTF am I doing this? Makes zero sense.

I just see news from Eleven Warriors pop up about OSU recruiting. That's about it

Best bet is to completely discard Rivals rankings, they by far are the worst when it comes to rankings. Just go by the 247 composite which is an avg for 247, rivals, and espn scores.

He’s probably still at his home in Cobb County and had nothing better to do, he still has friends on the UGA team, but he’s not coming back. Zero percent chance. I’ll gladly eat my crow if I’m wrong

Oh I doubt anything happens. Rumors were just flying on the Twatter. Would be an entertaining show to watch tho if he did and the NCAA granted him immediate eligibility.

I never understood the fascination with Newman, and was consistently puzzled by UGA fans being excited about him. Despite that, he had a lot of hype coming into Athens from sports writers and such. I wouldn’t be shocked if maybe he realized his stock was only going to drop once he started practicing and the opt out option became good cover.

The excitement was because we really didn’t know what we were gonna do at QB when Fromm declares. At the time our options were a former walk-on that transferred to Last Chance U to transfer back under scholarship because he knew the system(and now it’s a new system), a red shirt freshman coming off brain surgery or an incoming true freshman. Also we haven’t had a QB that could run since DJ Shockley.

But JT Daniels transferred in later, and he’s a better talent, and we should be able to beat Arky running up the middle every play if Daniels needs an extra week

This ... after the Eason > Fromm > Fields back to back to back 5* QBs, the shelf was empty. Adding Newman who had a lot of potential was nice. Had to imagine he would do just fine with an exceptional cast around him. Adding JTD turned out to be genius. although most of us thought he was the 2021 guy.

Your post intrigued me as I follow recruiting very closely. Bama is currently 1 on Rivals and ESPN, 2 on 247Sports, 2 in the composite. Their class is awesome, I hate to say.

I went back and looked at about 8 years of recruiting. Rivals, on average for Auburn was less than 1 spot off from the Composite, and almost exactly equal, on average with ESPN and 247Sports - over 9 years off only 2 and 3 spots total.

The main differences are that Rivals only counts top 20 in order to keep it quality over quantity. 247 Composite uses a special algorithm where the 1st player is worth 100% their value, and that percentage gets less and less with each additional player you add.

You never look at them until the year is over. Auburn is 33 right now, but will end up around 10. UGA is 14 right now, but will end up top 3. Today just doesn't matter. Look by average and that is a typical better way to put it. UGA is 1 on Rivals by average, 13 overall. That's why I know we will be in top 3 when all is said and done. Auburn is only 18 by average right now, which surprises me. But you'll close with mostly 4* and will jump to 10ish.

the more i think about this, the dumber i think this decision is

it's his life and he can do whatever he wants. I think most people would acknowledge that.

1.) He had one good year at Wake. It should be mentioned that Wake plays a pretty non-traditional offense. It would have been beneficial for Newman to showcase his talent in a pro-style offense such as UGA's.

2.) Newman played in a historically awful ACC last year and on the rare occasion he did play against a top tier opponent, he didn't fare too well.

3.) i've just never been impressed with pure passing ability. I thought his real strength was throwing bombs to a surprisingly great WR corps at Wake. His intermediate passing ability could use a LOT of work.
