Headed to Aruba tomorrow from Charlotte. Not my first time. But I hate flying. This message board is great. Y'all know what to do. If you the praying type... Do so. If you some other type, whatever it is... Send good vibes, thoughts, etc. Many thanks.

Good Luck

Oh man. Come on now.
I will wish you well but I freaked out more than one friend by messing with them over this. Once in the navy, we were getting ready to fly to Scotland on a military transport and his buds kept feeding him the lines about planes coming apart. I sat in front of him and put about a dozen bolts and nuts between my feet. As soon as we hit assent angle, I lifted my feet and let them go. For some strange and I am sure unrelated reason, I was called on the carpet.

So I’ve never really been afraid of flying. Because my father was a successful businessman. He had a private plane when I was a kid. My father was the pilot. You talking about being scared, get in a single engine plane and fly around thunder showers, and lightning storms at 12 years old. Commercial airlines are the safest way to travel. Millions of people fly annually. Still the safest way to travel even safer than driving your car.

Do you drink alcohol? If so, get to the airport a little early, go by the airport bar and have a couple of drinks prior to boarding the plane. Tell your doctor that you’re suffering from some anxiety and maybe get something that will help ease your nerves. But please be careful, don’t drink alcohol and mix with anxiety medicine.

Benadryl can help too, if a person doesn't drink. I also know a couple that uses Dramamine as well but not for motion sickness.

When I was younger, I would have a couple of drinks before boarding the plane and then back in the day they would actually give you for free little miniatures and mixers on the plane. Oh how I missed those days. Just got back from Orlando, our flight Was cookies, soft drinks, water, or coffee

Always stay one step ahead. Don't worry about the flight there. Worry about the flight back.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

Be in the moment.

Do not fear.

Nothing matters.

I just get minimally nervous on takeoff and landing. Nervous isn't really the right word but I do a second check on where the emergency exits are and anyone between me and them to see if there are people that will obviously need help. I guess heightened awareness would work better than nervous.

Well, in my old age, I just say a prayer. And leave it at that. I’ve tried to live a good life and if this is my demise, then so be it.

But seriously, airline travel these days is still the safest way to travel. Just know that those pilots and stewardess get on those airplanes every day to make their living. They have the faith and trust in their ground crew and their aircraft.

I hate flying as well. Flown a lot in life, mostly military. Had 2 close calls, both in the military. Fatalities in one of them. I doubt I'll ever fly again.

Good luck!

I more focus on response if something happens, not worrying that it will. I do the same at restaurants, movie theatres(back when I went) or buildings that I will be in for more than a few minutes. I may have had too much time in emergency response training and as a safety rep to quit doing that.

I was in two bad helicopter crashes in the military. I was in two small plane crashes, one in Great Bend, Kansas and the other in an Oklahoma alfalfa field. And I missed a Delta flight in Dallas by 5 minutes that crashed shortly after takeoff and killed about a dozen people. I have friends who flat refuse to fly with me. They say I'm F'ing jinxed. I say I'm blessed to have survived all that.
