I really want to like springtime

More cocaine. Will open those passages right up.

I mean, the weather is decent, baseball is starting up, good fishing weather, but man pollen kicks my ass every year.

Wake up every morning with a stuffed up nose, a sore throat and a headache.

Is there a way to make my sinuses stop being such pussies in the Spring?
So I have been a lifelong allergy sufferer. My nose somehow gets so stuffed I cant get any air through it, but somehow it still runs like a faucet. Its fucking agonizing sometimes. Over the years I have tried every fucking known allergy medicine and none of them worked. Unitl about a year ago, I tried Flonase. Its the only thing that has ever worked for me, and it DOES WORK. at least for me. nothing else ever made even a dent in my symptoms. Try it.

I’m gonna buy some on the way home from work

Peace to you today, my friend.

Any of you remember Coke Snuff? Flavored dust you snorted like coke. Like rose-colored glasses for your nose.
I.....do not remember this. Was this what all the rich folks were doing 200 years ago?

The clouds of yellow this past week put the dust bowl to shame.

Use to have horrible allergies as a kid. Bloody noses constantly because of it. The honey, which was mentioned earlier, didn't do anything. Zyrtec was probably the best thing I ever had to combat allergies. Fortunately, I grew out of it and haven't had any issues in years.

I loves me some local honey, but it doesn't do shit for allergies.

I saw someone mention local honey.
It's helped me, at least to some extent.
It isn't as though it makes them all go away, but it makes me go from completely fuckin' miserable to annoying but manageable.
The more local, the better.

Also ... and, yeah, I realize this sounds weird ... I tried it on my cat. When I moved to this house, she all of a sudden started having problems in the spring. I thought, what the fuck, let's see local honey will help her. It was pretty extraordianry ... she's have these awful and pretty scary kind of sneezing fits, I'd give her a bit of honey, and they'd just stop.

I mention the cat because it's hard for me not to wonder if some of the help I get from it isn't psychosomatic. The psychosomatic factor doesn't come in to play with a cat.

EDIT: I (obviously) didn't read all the way through the thread before I posted. Maybe it's because the honey I use is so hyper-local, maybe it's because I'm only allergic to one or two things out here, but it's helped me. YMMV

Probably a stupid question, but do bees pollinate trees that don’t produce flowers or fruit? I’m pretty sure it’s tree pollen that fucks me up, and if bees pollinate them, why do they release their load into the wind?

Some trees do need bees to pollinate. Some are self-pollinators. Some pollinate other trees around them in an airborne spreading. Nature is wide and wonderful.

@Illustrious Potentate, as several folks here have stated, Flonase works well against seasonal allergies. You should definitely get some and use it. I've got some additional info for you, though...

1) Flonase works best if you begin using it two weeks before allergy season hits your region. It builds up a coating that acts as a preventative defense. Then you continue to use it throughout the allergy season. Spray each nostril twice; wait a few minutes between applications. Since you are already fucked up by allergies, it will help some now, but not nearly as well as if you had started coating your nostrils early.

2) In addition to Flonase, you should also use an allergy pill. The three most common allergy pills are Zyrtec, Allegra and Claritin (name brands). Those different medications work better or worse for different people, so the exact one that will work best for you might be a bit of trial and error. You likely do not need to get a name brand pill for it to work for you, though; the generics are the same ingredients and cost less.

The one that works best for me is Zyrtec. It makes me drowsy, so I take it an hour or two before I go to sleep (and it also functions as a sleep aide). I apply Flonase in the morning - about 12 hours after I take the pill - so I've constantly got overlapping coverage. That procedure has worked wonderfully for me.

The above procedures were provided to me by an allergist 10-15 years ago. Today, I am barely affected by seasonal allergies. I might have some mild eye itchiness, but the hell I used to endure is gone.
