They'd wear Division Champs merch or "playoffs" merch otherwise. They're wearing some Cricut shit because they're celebrating something (bye to the ALDS) that didn't exist in prior formats.

Yzerman built a dynasty in Tampa. When he came back to Detroit, the only player he had on the roster that was worth a shit was Larkin. Holland really fucked up the franchise badly. And on top of that, the Wings had lottery luck so terrible the NHL changed lottery rules. There have been no quick-fixes in this rebuild process.

The NHL ain't the NFL. Contracts don't mean shit in the NFL. If an NFL GM fucks up and gives a shitty player a bloated contract they can cut him and be no worse for the wear the following year. In the NHL, if a shitty player gets a long term bloated contract they're stuck paying the player for the full contract and it continues to count against the cap until the contract expires. Abdelkader still counts over a million dollars against the Wings cap this year and next year and he hasn't played in 5 years. It takes a lot longer to unfuck an NHL franchise than it does an NFL franchise if your GM gave out bad long-term contracts as Holland did.

I have confidence that this season will be a strong one for the Wings. Like the Lions, they've been the ones getting punched in the mouth for a long time and now is the time they're gonna be doing some punching.
