I believe you are wrong. Dabo took a clearly less talented player in Bryant and replaced him after 4 games with Sunshine. It had to be done by the 4 game red shirt rule. That took balls only because he had to figure that Bryan might leave, which he did. But, they play in the ACC where they skated through the rest of the season. But, I do give Dabo credit for that. But that's it. Saban's situation is way different. He didn't start Tua a single game in 2017, and only brought him in when UGA was beating him at half. Ballsy move, but not necessarily one of choice. So, that is not a good comparison. So, Dabo made the switch you say Smart should have, but Saban sure didn't.
You guys are making up shit about 2018 and Fromm to support your argument. Coming off being a play from winning a NC as a freshman, he had an 11-1 record, and had UGA ahead of Bama in the SECCG until 5 minutes to go in the 4th quarter. Read that again. The guy you say should have benched for a true freshman (who didn't play all that well when he was in), was the the no. 5 ranked QB behind Tua, Will Grier, Haskins and Kyler Murray, and was 5 minutes away from the SECC and a trip to the CFP. There isn't a coach that would have benched him - not Saban or Dabo. I truly think you guys don't even remember that Fromm of 2018 wasn't Fromm of 2019, and Fields of 2018 wasn't Fields of 2019. There is no way a coach surrenders a season and plays a QB that wasn't ready and would have lost games, when he as the 5th ranked QB running his team to 11-1 and the SECCG. Now, Smart might have played Fields differently to try to get him to stay, but Fields was on record as he arrived at UGA that he wouldn't even have minded taking a redshirt. At the end of the day, in 2018 Smart did what 100% of the other coaches would have done, and then Field decided he wanted to transfer.
I'd like to point out that if you think tOSU did fantastic in this, let's not forget that the reason that Fields has a spot to transfer to at tOSU was that they decided not to play a QB by the name of Burrows. So he transferred, won the Heisman, went 15-0, and the best QB performance ever in college football, and won the natty, and was drafted no. 1. Meanwhile, Fields has 1 less NC appearance than Jake Fromm. Sometimes things line up, sometimes they don't. tOSU did what they thought was right, just as Smart did.
The narrative of Smart, QBs, 2018 Fields v. Fromm, etc. is way overblown. If you lived it you'd be like me saying what the fuck are you guys talking about?
