It was recommended to me by somebody who the last time I saw him in person he had ABBA playing loudly on his car stereo.
That makes sense.

i'm thinking of ending things (Netflix)
9.7
I'm thinking of ending things is exceptional. The most surreal and haunting of Charlie Kauffman's movies. I'd have to rank them
1. Being John Malkovich
2. Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind
3. i'm thinking of ending things
4. Synecdoche, New York
5. Anomalisa
6. Adaptation
I might in time put it over Eternal Sunshine but that movie is a certified classic so I will ha e to see how I feel over this movie in time.
Joint Security Area
7.6
A bit let down. This is a movie by one of my favorite Korean directors. About some NK and SK troops along that border zone. Sounded right up alley, couldn't find anywhere to stream it but was able to track down a blu ray copy online and it took a month for it to be delivered. All that waiting and hype and the movie was just okay. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great. Wasn't even close too the same ball park as the director's other great work like Oldboy or The Handmaiden.
was on netflix back in the day, granted, i was in korea at the time i saw it there. didn't know it was a must watch for some.... seeing you say it's the same cat that did oldboy and handmaiden, yeah, it's not up to that par, but what the fuck were you expecting? the bigger picture of it was more than the other two, though. perhaps that's seen as propaganda.

I don’t think I have realized that before this post...
I really liked Pitts American-esque monologue segment at the end.Killing Them Softly- 6.5/10
Bored watching the other night. Felt like something Mafia and didn’t see a doc that I haven’t seen so gave this a try.
Im all for a good mob movie of any type. And this one had good stuff. Pitt was very good in his role and made for an interesting character (with one nip pick below). Scott McNairy was not what I’m used to seeing him play. He had the wanna be tough guy thing down. Liotta as a scrupulous thug...can’t complain about that.
The nitpicks that really brought the rating down:
1. Anyone that’s been to New Orleans knows immediately this was shot in New Orleans. But, yet, the are trying to set it in the Boston area. That just wrecked the fucking thing to me. Just shoot it in Boston for shit sakes
2. Violence is an important aspect of a mob movie, and I embrace even pretty gratuitous stuff....because mobsters can be gratuitous. But, the way they present violence here was just dumb to me. Over the top in an unneeded way. Just dumb
3. Pitts character has a discussion early on where he extols his lack of desire to get to close to a mark. They snivel and cry and beg for their mothers and it’s gross. He’s a hit man with at least enough conscience to want to not get too close to do the job. His philosophy on killing them softly. And he sticks to this up until it comes to McNairys character...who he emotionally tortures up to finishing off point blank. That made no sense...especially when the philosophy shared is the damn name of the movie.
Nitpicks out of the way.....the best part of spending this time on this movie was Gandolfini. Playing a waste of a once great hit man who is at the end of his rope. Boozed up, a real disgusting asshole....but he plays it in a way that you can see there is a soul in there that’s lost and could be redeeming at some earlier point.
I think that was me.... but it was so good lol.The Exorcist
8.5
Going back through this thread the other day and saw someone give a very glowing review of the movie on like page 2 or 3 of this thread. Realized I have never seen this movie so decided to finally give it a watch. Was very different than I was expecting. From the clips and pop culuture references over the years I was expecting the whole movie to just take place in this bedroom with a possessed girl as priests try to do their thing but really that is only the last half hour or so. So I actually ended up enjoying the movie a lot more than I was anticipating. I didn't find it all that scary and the effects are certainly a bit dated but I liked the story and I didn't not see the final outcome of the movie coming. Well worth a watch. Might kick off me going back and watching some other movies I've missed from the 70s which I view as the 2nd best decade ever for movies.
