Stranger at the Gate

7/10

Short documentary film (about 30 minutes long) that tells the true story of a Marine who planned to blow up a Mosque in his hometown in Indiana. He made the bomb, brought it to the Mosque… well… don’t want to spoil it. Film consists of several interviews of all involved. It’s available on YouTube. Here‘s the link:

The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)

9/10

I'm grading that based on what I think a perfect Bond movie would include. This is really close.

Greatest Beer Run Ever.

Story of a guy from NY who brings beers to several neighborhood buddies while they are on active duty in Vietnam during the war. Supposedly it’s based on a true story. I’m not sure how loosely or accurately it’s based though.

Starts off a little slow. Picks up a bit somewhere in the middle but never really “gets there” for me. I give it a 6 out of 10. In fact, that might even be a little generous. I’m curious to know how accurate the movie is to the actual story.
I was going to watch that one but wasn't convinced it was worth a 2 hour commitment. I may pass. I've got shit tons of other stuff I'm backlogged on.

I thought that was one of the weaker Bond flicks. It didn’t feel right, Bond just going after some rando assassin. Though it was, I believe, the first time we saw other Double-Oh agents…

The plot wasn't the best but I loved Sir Roger Moore's fashion (good grief those pinpoint collars and wide ties!) and the Asian setting with the nemesis having the amazing fortress.

A fun scary modern boy in the hood story. Great social commentary, action, adventure, farce. Great music and soundtrack.

Horrid script. Had all the hatable things: kid who speaks like a wise old man, nine mismatched tones in one movie,
Plot armor, things that happen just because they need to.
One extra point because Cersei is in it.
A kid sees his entire family slaughtered, and we’re introduced to a negligent infanticide theme, and the movie is played like a bad Smokin Aces sequel.

Shakespearean plot had a good structure, but the narration and interspersed cartoons and weird editing and especially narration kept the characters at arms length for the audience. Too bad.

A 1996 script directed like a 1996 movie. Plot starts to get sketchy. But then you care about the characters at the end. So Michael Bay.

Really dumb political thriller morality tale family drama crime mystery plot twisty stupidity. Skip this. There’s not even a semi clever reveal or anything.

Super convoluted plot. Also, it’s like some adolescent AI wrote an “action” movie.
Sound production was even bad. Too bad, I love Allison Janney.

Wow. What a great little mystery movie. Wife gets kidnapped at gas station. Action ensues. But all characters are perfect and gave simple, consistent motivations. It’s tight. Great soundtrack too.

Very well done noir hitchcockian little movie. All actors bought in. One ding: the motivation of our main character.

Mmmmm, Britt scantily clad in green... And Maude Adams.

I know you were probably all hot for "Tattoo" but I don't hold it against you.

I watched Appaloosa on Netflix the other day.

It had nearly everybody in it and left me feeling remotely satisfied.

After that I watched LA Confidential off a Blu Ray.

Perfect noire.

Such great acting talent, and it plays like a cookie cutter romcom. Ends abruptly. Just a waste of time.
