Taxi Driver

Hadn't seen it in 20 years.

Still intense.

I watched Fast Times for the first time in probably 30 years the other night. I was still essentially quoting each line as they were spoken. What a classic fucking movie. And surprisingly, only 3 scenes of nudity. What a prudish movie compared to today’s standards.

10/10

I know this one is loved. I haven't seen it. I can't imagine Sean Penn is truly funny.

While he apparently went full “method” on set (he was actually stoned for most of his scenes and he insisted on being called “Jeff” on set), there is no pretension in this role. It is just a fun character.

Also…

If you didn’t grow up with this one, I am not sure how it will land with fresh, modern eyes. The soundtrack is epic and the cast is amazing. If you watch it, keep in mind that the entire cast were nobodies at the time. And look at the extras/minor characters as well.

The Forgotten Battle. On Netflix.

I turned it on for a bored Saturday watch and almost turned it off thinking I would need to read the whole dialogue.

It’s a Dutch production, but it’s mostly in English. Only the Germans speak German (and that’s tightly accurate).

It’s was a really good WWII flick. It goes with some depth into the Dutch town that the Nazis have and the Allies are trying to take as part of Market Garden.

Great play on the town, the resistance, etc. The war scenes are solid and raw and real as well. Overall, the whole movie realistically blurs the lines like real war does. They don’t make any maudlin exceptions for some characters. It’s raw and real.

Easily 8/10 for me. Maybe even a little more. I really enjoyed this.

Barbarian

It's now on HBOMax, feel like I head heard good things about it, a lot of nice hype/buzz while it was in theatres. It wasn't deserving of the hype I heard. Shot well, acted well, etc... I won't say anymore as the hype was about, don't learn anything about the movie, just watch it... well I did. I'll leave you to come to your own marks.

5/10

Bullet Train
7/10
Entertaining, a few honestly funny moments, didn't seem to drag on. Would watch again if free, wouldn't rent again.

I love Barbarians the series on Netflix. Gladiator meets Vikings.

Wife and I watched the Elvis movie at home. It was gawd awful
-5

It Follows - 8/10

One of the better horror movies I've seen in a while.

All Quiet on the Western Front - 9/10

I probably would have given it a 10 but i saw it at home rather than in theaters. Epic film. Netflix did a great job with this one.

Unfriended - 3/10

Tried another horror movie. The most emotion I had to it was how dumb the characters were.

The Good Nurse
Netflix
3
A slow burn true crime story about a nurse who kills patients. It’s really too slow. It’s just boring.

The premise is thin. The production value is low. No real acting talent to speak of. Why is this movie so damn good?

All Quiet on the Western Front (2022)

While beautifully shot and paced, it’s a bit tropesy and not very compelling.

It's a bit unique. I think the director and the way they use the "it" is what makes it so creepy.
