Last movie you watched and rating (1-10)

This show is set in Boston during the early 1990s. It is just after the Charles Stuart incident and tensions were very high. The black community is very distrustful of the police department bc of what happened in the Stuart case. Additionally, during this time, the Boston office of the FBI is viewed as being corrupt because of their interaction with Whitey Bulger as an informant. The show captures the feeling of that period very well.

I won’t talk too much about the series but I’ll say think of it like combining the movies Black Mass and The Town with a little bit of Good Will Hunting sprinkled in.

The show stars Kevin Bacon and some other well known actors. Highly recommend it.

He took a walk on the wild side...

Why yes, yes I will watch this a few times and fantasize about young Marky Mark. :smokin: You have done good work today.

I posted that because the movie @dbldwn711 mentioned. If you play that music video at the point I have it marked for start....it talks about the crime the movie is about.

Yeah it was not what I expected. Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson were both very good with Woody actually being better IMO.

And I agree, it was the beginning of the press deciding to give a morbid public what they wanted. look how many folks showed up to view their bodies, the car and then their funerals. They were celebrities for killing a cop....the original cop killers!
I would watch Woody eat breakfast. He's awesome.

Show me another actor that started with an iconic TV character, and was able to break the typecast better. He's great.

I dug the old pics during the credits too. Fucking crazy how much they unloaded on em'.

You reminded me of a thought I had while watching this. Woody plays an officer hunting down to original “natural born killers”.

Earlier in his career he played one of them in the movie by the same name.

mother!

I liked the idea behind it, and there were some seriously cool parts, but holy balls was it hard to follow. I'd give it a 6.5/10 but you get to see Jennifer Lawrence's tits for a couple seconds, so that bumps it up to a 7.5/10.

haha. Yup... that describes the incident. That song is WEAK! Haha.

You should watch Red Sparrow then.

Tom Hanks
Ron Howard

Not sure Woodie belongs in the class of those two, but he certainly belongs in the same conversation.

I Care a Lot - really wanted to like it. Peter Dinklage is always great. You were apparently supposed to cheer for the evil main character lady or something. 5/10

I didn’t get the sense this was a movie where you are supposed to cheer on anyone. I read that up front. It made it an easier watch.

Wild Card: The Downfall of a Radio Loudmouth

A one hourish documentary about Craig Carton. I liked it. Insightful but also somewhat predictable. Worth watching.

I really wanted to see her get her finger & toenails ripped out one by one until she caved. Maybe some waterboarding? A little face s'mores?

I saw that early too but some things that happened later in the movie have me a sense they wanted the viewer to want her to win.

Yeah, I can see that. I was so into just the premise that this was not a good guy movie that I let that go.

I think if you’re going to do a “grey” narrative....all black hats for example...you have to stick to not falling for the tempting premise to anoint one as the white hat. There was no desirable one to do that with in this story. That said....she might have been the worse one to try to fit a white hat on.

The Salesman

7.7

Iranian movie that won Oscar for best foreign film in 2017. The subtitles were annoying on Amazon Prime because words words were incomplete in their spelling, cutoff for some reason after the first character. The way the movie is going and heading towards the way it ends and how it wants to make you feel was interesting. Guess it speaks to Iranian culuture but idk. But the ending does make you feel and in the end I would say that makes it an effective movie.

Ron is eligible but while Tom certainly branched out from comedy work in general I'm not sure that I'd call his work/role in Bosom Buddies "iconic" and it didn't really typecast him.

I never felt that way. She felt like the bad guy the entire time to me.
