I don't mean just what it would look like this year or last year or any other year. Just in general, let us talk about this thing. Some hate it because 9-3 teams will get in or they don't like teams having a bye week. Some love it because it is a more expanded playoff. The following is not my graphic, just something I found. Man, I think I would kill for this. Penn State and Clemson, Alabama and Utah (Utah has beaten them before), Tennessee and K-State. Like I said, I don't mean this year even though I showed that graphic. But what are the ups and downs to this 12 team playoff thing? The good, the bad, the ugly...

So would be 4 games for Bama at #6? Don’t think I like it. Injuries are gonna be an
Issue and for potential draft picks? Yikes the bowl games are already kind 50-50 whether high draft picks bring their A game

Do 6 or 8 teams max

Well, that’s good, at least.

If you’re going to, for no justifiable reason, stand in the way of the best teams’ facing each other, then you need to be made an example of. No, “tradition” and “history” aren’t good reasons.

It's been the Rose Bowls M.O. since forever.

Rosebowl is still the best bowl for me personally.. but them nerds need to get it together and quit fighting. This is inevitable

Leave the G5 teams out!

P5’s only and I like it.

Let the G5’s do their own playoff & championship!

They would be costing CFB $450 million x 2. If they stand in the way, they will be excluded going forward. Good riddance.

It's fantastic and will make CFB even better than it is today. They got most things right, but having round 2 on campus will be something that will come with the next contract in or around 2034. For now, they took care of most issues, the number is perfect, byes are great, and I can't wait for it to happen.

why? you scared?
Not at all, just want a fair tournament.
Not fair to the P5’s when the G5’s play a lighter schedule then get rewarded by making the playoff. Screw that, I’d enjoy a G5 only playoff too!

I have long advocated for a G5 playoff. I think it would be fantastic for football nerds. I'd watch it. That said, one team getting in is no big deal when 11 other P5s get in. The 12th P5 can fuck off ... don't lose 2 or 3 games.

Part of me feels that too BUT we as fans will also get to see matchups with that 2/3 loss P5 vs a higher seeded P5 that we may not get to see otherwise. I also believe that CFB is going to start looking more and more like the NFL and undefeated and 1 loss teams are going to become more and more rare.
Plus, TV wants as many “brands” as possible for eyeballs so they can pay those big dollar amounts to these P5 conferences, taking the extra P5’s will help do that over the Tulane’s and Coastal Carolina’s of the world.

I like those teams too , don’t get me wrong but I’d like to see them vs each other in their own playoff at that level rather than watching them get beat every year in the P5 playoff.

why not both?
top ranked G5 in with the top

other 4 conference champs play a 4 team playoff

last year we would have had
Cinci in playoff
1. 12-1 Louisiana vs 4. 9-4 Northern Illinois
2. 12-1 UTSA vs 3. 10-3 Utah State

also why wouldnt it be a fair tourney? the top G5 champion has had access for years.
in playoff years 3-5 but only 2 were bad losses.
Cinci lost 27-6 and 24-21 21 and 3 point difference
memphis lost 53-39 14 point diff
UCF lost 40-32 and won 34-27 8 point loss
Western Michigan lost 24-16 8 point loss
Houston won 38-24
Boise won 38-30

going to BCS years 5-2
UCF won 52-42
Northern Illinois lost 31-10
TCU won 21-19
Utah won 31-17
Hawaii lost 41-10
Boise State won 43-42
Utah won 35-7

all in all 8-7
remember these access bowl bids were usually against higher ranked teams from the P5.

These games are all against second rate (not championship caliber) good but not great teams though.

Cincinnati is the only real "championship" scenario and they got embarrassed.

Itll be a whole different ball game when a real title is actually on the line.
