Are you trying to say these are separate issues, or one leads to the other? I think the nuclear family thing is just stupid and recently created. There are plenty of examples of cultures dont subscribe to it, and are fine.

Decaying morals seems kind of ridiculous too. Honestly, why do people pretend these are worst times humanity has ever seen?

Im not saying you are wrong, necessarily, but it makes you sound like the old guy screaming about "KIDS THESE DAYS"

Do you think your son would be better off without you in his daily life?

It's not a stretch at all to presume that answer is no.



My fundamental point was the people need reform as much or likely more than the jails.

That's not to say there isn't room for improvement, as their certainly is...(which if yer wondering, I would start at for profit prisons), but no system can cure people. Only the person themselves can.

I agree with this.

That said, the system can't cure, but the system can put people in a position where treating the individual person's problem has a much higher success rate. A drug dealer is highly likely going to keep dealing until he's pulled out of that environment. Right now, the system pulls the dealer out, but does little to give him a path to a new life. And far too often the dealer goes back to dealing when he's unlocked from his cage because he doesn't know anything else. IMO, jails & prisons should operate more like schools than simply a place to stash the trash.

How can we pull that off? Prisoners aren't forced to learn like children.

Good question. I wish I had great answers to that.

I do believe, though, that many prisoners would likely be receptive to learning a trade while incarcerated. A healthy dose of our prisoners were not subjected to an adequate learning environment as children.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure most of that is provided in prison?:noidea:


It's up to them tho, they still have to request it. Almost certain you can attain your GED and entrance to some college courses, and I believe they have work-release programs as well, with employer's on the outside that help get them back into society.

In most cases bruh, it's just cuz they're addicts, and end up in shitty situations. Addiction is 100% up to the individual. There are things that can help, but ultimately it's on you.
 
Imo, the biggest problem is that, no matter what is done in prison to rehabilitate them, they are released right back to the same neighborhood/situation that they were in that led to them being in prison in the first place.

So, most of them go right back to the same lifestyle.

Not sure how you fix that.

Many many many men have grown up just fine without a father in their lives. To put the blame on divorce or failed relationships is just dumb.
