I saw Lynyrd Skynrd with ZZ Top in 2000. ZZ Top blew them off the stage and it wasn't even close. They played the same old songs with tired old, washed-up semi-talented 70-somethings and Johnny Vanzant did the old turn-the-bottle-of-Jack-Daniels-up-and-chug-it trick about a dozen times. Come on. How dumb do you think we are?

They had like three good songs. Mollie Hatchet had double that on every album.

Skynyrd had a ton of good songs. They were all made before Ronnie died though. He was the heart and soul of that band. It sucked when the Allmans lost Duane, but Greg was their main songwriter and Dickey Betts was a beast on the guitar too, so they were able to carry on with a slightly different sound and not be a joke.
But you wanna know a band that puts on a hell of a live show that didn't have many hits, and came on a little too late to really be included in the southern rock group?
The Georgia Satellites
I saw them a couple years ago, they were the middle act between Drivin N Cryin and Drive-By Truckers, and they put on one of the better shows I've ever seen, and it was just a one off gig after not touring as a band for years.
On a similar note, if you ever get a chance to see a show at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, I highly recommend

Most of their original lineup is dead, but I will agree that their current lineup is pretty much a bad Marshall Tucker Band cover band. Much like Skynyrd, they should have hung it up when the heart and soul of the band died

I agree with you there, I saw their current lineup, and it was pathetic. But back in the late 70's and early 80's, I've been told they were one of the best concerts you could go to.

Great song, but I prefer the more direct "Needle and the Spoon"
"Things Goin' On" is probably my favorite Skynyrd song, love that honky tonk piano.
