Hate to speculate, but it happens a lot around here with chicken trucks. Take a big gamble to get in front of the slow big rig so you won’t be stuck behind them. They don’t stop too good.

Had a lot of close calls with idiots pulling out in front of me when I was pulling around a 7 ton drill. I imagine it’s a lot worse for big rigs
Yes, we have lots of issues with wrecks here involving semis because idiots don't understand those things can not stop on a dime and pull right out in front of them.

Fixed for accuracy.

So it only happens to people from Mexico?

Being a driver in Texas I can honestly say it doesn't happen only to people from Mexico. With that said, the only hit and run I've ever been involved in was a Spanish speaker on 183. Was read ended in the rain, got out and talked with him and agreed to pull off the exit so traffic could get moving, and then he took off. Minor damage but still pissed me off. It is not uncommon for that to happen here because of illegals and a lack of insurance by them.

Had something similar happen to me. On the way to the state fair after a good rain and the roads were still went. Was stopped at a light on the off ramp when I saw a pickup coming and he slammed on the brakes (the ramp had a downhill slope) and rear ended me. Got out to find out he couldn’t speak English. As soon as I turned my back he bolted. Went to the Dallas police and they said it wasn’t worth the time for an insurance report as they would never find the guy anyway. They said it happens all the time.

Did the driver survive?

CHP officials say at the intersection the SUV drove "directly in the path of the big rig" around 6:15 a.m. The semitruck struck the left side of the SUV, which appeared to have been pushed off the road. Investigators were trying to determine if the SUV first stopped at the stop sign before entering the intersection.

The driver of the SUV, who was among those killed, was described as a 22-year-old man from Mexicali. Information about the occupants of the SUV, including where they were traveling to and from and why there were so many in one vehicle, is still under investigation.

The Expedition was not registered to the driver, according to highway patrol.
