More GA Drama, This Time Involving Jalen Carter

Fuck your paywall link.

Anyway, might have a little something to do with driving too fast and bad things happening. Henry Ruggs says hi
Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter has started to be taken off draft boards leading up to the 2023 Draft by NFL teams due to his legal troubles. Carter was once considered a lock to be a top 10 or even a top 5 draft pick, but now his future in the NFL is in serious jeopardy.

According to a source who spoke to The Athletic’s Vic Tafur, the Las Vegas Raiders have crossed Carter off their board and will not take him with the 7th overall pick. Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels previously stated that the team would do their homework on Carter, who was previously considered one of the top two or three players in the draft, but it seems that the team has decided to move on from him.

Carter’s legal troubles stem from an incident on the morning of January 15th, when he was racing a car driven by Georgia recruiting analyst Chandler LeCroy. The car crashed, resulting in the death of LeCroy and Georgia offensive lineman Devin Willock, who was a passenger in the car. Carter was charged with two misdemeanors – racing and reckless driving – on March 1st.

In court, Carter pleaded no contest to the charges and was sentenced to one year of probation, a $1,000 fine, and 80 hours of community service. However, his legal troubles have now cost him dearly in the draft, with at least one NFL team unwilling to take a chance on him.

The Raiders’ decision to cross Carter off their board is likely influenced by the recent legal troubles of former 1st round pick wide receiver Henry Ruggs, who was arrested in 2021 on charges of DUI resulting in death, DUI resulting in substantial bodily harm, and two counts of reckless driving. Ruggs is accused of driving 156 mph with a blood-alcohol content of 0.16 before crashing into another car, resulting in the death of 23-year-old Tina Tintor and her dog.

The comparison between the two cases is too close for comfort for the Raiders and their fans in the Las Vegas community. With Carter now off the board for NFL teams, his future in the NFL is in serious doubt. It remains to be seen if he will be able to overcome his legal troubles and return to the field.

The bolded part, LOL. He's certainly lost some money, but we know that at least 3 QBs are going first. He might have dropped from somewhere top 5 to top 10. He isn't dropping below top 10 or someone is getting a deal. FWIW:

1CARfrom CHI$40,969,500$26,976,000$7,449,000
2HOU$39,132,087$25,639,699$7,114,925
3ARI$37,962,846$24,789,342$6,902,336

That's Total Value / Bonus / 2023 Cap Hit. First round deals are all guaranteed. That means he may have cost him as much as $18 million.

All the controversy around him and he is declining visits? Interesting
If you aren't a UGA fan I am not sure people realize how good he is. Let all the off-field stuff go ... there was a reason he was discussed as the no. 1 pick.

He now has the best agent in the business running the show. He's basically telling everyone to STFU ... I've talked to teams and he is going to get drafted top 10. Between the Lions, Raiders, Falcons, Bears and Eagles, one of those teams is going to take him. The NFL just invited him to the draft. They don't do that for people who are going to drop out of the first round. They do that for people who are going to go top 10.

I can pretty well guarantee the Falcons will draft that dude from Iowa over Carter and then wonder why most of the state is pissed at them post draft.

Nfl don't care...guys have killed people and still came back to play for big bucks. Jc will be a perfect fit for the league....

The Raiders aren't going to draft him. They have had 3 recent first rounders who are no longer in the league due to legal troubles.

I wouldn't mind if they did, I agree he is really good I just think LV is going to be scared away

I'm not so sure that is going to stop the Raiders though. Lol.

I'd almost be willing to agree with you if Henry Ruggs didn't just kill someone while driving like a maniac and Jalen Carter got in trouble for driving like a maniac

I get that, especially with the speeding thing with Ruggs.

Hate to say it, but as the draft approaches, the more I want them to take him at 6 then Bijan at 18.

I'm with you on taking Carter at 6, as we NEED help on the inside on the DL. Bijan at 18 though -- I'd be fine if we hadn't spent $18 million on David Montgomery, but I'm all in on the Lions going DL with the 1st pick and best case scenario, one of the top CB's dropping to 18 (Witherspoon, Porter, Gonzalez), especially after trading away Okudah.
