Most Deserving Champions Ever - Ohio State Buckeyes 2024

Have we ever had a national championship game in CFB where neither team was conference champion?

But, at least both teams had to win three games against other playoff teams to get there. So they totally “earned it” imho.
They earned the title, but “most deserving” is a bit overboard.

"they" don't. But glad you finally got your SEC invite, afterthought.
All good. I’m look forward to seeing A&M in the playoffs, when they expand to 48 teams

Beating the #2,3,4,5,9, and 10 in the final AP poll is pretty impressive. It definitely gives a basis to argue that they earned the title more than anyone before them

Expected you to be gone all afternoon hunting down "playoff participant" shirts at Walmart.

I think this year lacked a deep pool of quality teams to fill a 12 team playoff either way. But certainly Boise and SMU shouldn't have been occupying those spots.

Bama lost to Vanderbilt or OU

Ole Miss lost to Kentucky and Florida

South Carolina couldn't beat Illinois

these 3 teams coulda easily lost to Boise or SMU.

The SEC people are upset that titles are actually well earned now. Hilarious how they cried for a bigger playoff for years so they could "flex their dominance" but since this first playoff didn't go how they expected it some of them are crying that it makes the title less legitimate.

I think of those teams, Ole Miss was the most interesting and probably would bet Boise, SMU, Clemson, or ASU more times than not in a 10 game series.

But IIWII. They lost 3 games and if you can't manage to get into the top 10 in the final rankings then you really don't have a good argument for being included in the CFP.

I'd agree that Ole Miss would probably have the "best shot" of the 3, but they were still too unreliable this year to be anything close to a slam dunk.

Hold up, that dude isn't an "SEC" people. His years of bitching are from both a testosterone deficiency and his Big12 mindset. Don't lump him in with us. I see a B1G and a Big12 fan crying.

You see a lot of this from you legacy SEC people too. The Bama/UGA/LSU/Auburn/Florida/Ole Miss types. Those types had been crying for years for a expanded playoff when they swore the SEC should have like 3 teams in the 4 team playoff every year. First year of the 12 team playoff only 1 SEC team makes the final 4 and 0 make the title game it has caused some cope amongst that group.

Maybe. I'm not seeing it. One conference can't be dominant forever just like one team can't be dominant forever. I doubt you'd find many that would put money down that the SEC will be blocked out of the championship game for the foreseeable future.

They won't be blocked out of the title game forever but I think the past thought of "well if we had a bigger playoff the final 4 would constantly be all SEC teams!" crap can be put to rest.

Seems like I heard that more as argument against the expanded playoffs. "ESPN just wants to pack more SEC teams in for TV ratings".

I think the 12 team system worked pretty well this year. yeah a couple of questionable bye's and some butthurt when favorites lost, but that's why they play the game on the field and not on paper. I for one am glad to see someone like Boise St get in there and get kicked in the nuts so they can shut up about being able to hang with the top P5 teams.

Ohio State "if only we were better we could have won".

lol, you guys ARE retarded.
Not retarded at all. It's obvious to everyone who the better team was this season. Hell even with us beating ourselves with the most braindead playcalling ever, we still beat you guys if our kicker doesn't inexplicably shank two chip shot FGs. I'm just glad our success is gutting you this much though.

They can only pack as many SEC teams that earn the chance to get packed in at the end of the day. People can cry all they want for the 3 loss teams this year but when you have a bunch of 1 and 2 loss teams when you lose 3 games you lose that chance. SMU blew it for the future though because that 3 loss SEC is absolutely getting the nod over a 2 loss SMU type going forward due to their showing.

I don't think they'll be as willing to put the G5 team in position to get a bye anymore after Boise's showing this year.

I think you will see the conference get a little more creative in their scheduling to get more 2 loss teams and then maybe slide in a 3 loss conference champ just like the ACC did this year.

Oh yea lol there's absolutely going to be schedule meddling by the conferences to try to manufacture as many playoff teams as possible. Which is unfortunate for us the fans/viewers.

…none of those words have two “L’s” in them.

Yes. Because Ohio State had the chance to play oregon in the season and lost. You sure proved that given 17 tries, you might finally win a game.
The fuck? They got 2 tries. Lost by one point on the road and then completely butt fucked them the second time. Given the two results they were clearly the better team, and Oregon is the one who likely got their one out of 17 the first time.
