There are tales of people at the time really getting seriously fucked up from that movie; needing help afterward to get it out of their head and being seriously affected by it.

My step-mom got all fucked up watching The Shining in the theater. Had nightmares for close to a year.

The first "Alien" movie. Saw that in the theatre. The scene when the "alien" blew out of John Hurt's stomach. You knew you were in for a wild ride after that scene.
