National Championship Game pregame discussion thread

Hard to beat a team twice in one year, let alone 5 weeks. Kirby and Georgia probably spent 1 day prepping for Michigan and have spent the rest of the time prepping for Bama
Only because Michigan was going to try to play smashmouth football against a team that was MUCH better at smashmouth football than they are. That was right in Georgia's wheelhouse.

I think if both play their best game, it’s a coin flip. A real 50-50, not the running joke from the water cooler over the last week
Going off your earlier posts, you seem to believe there is a fair sized gap in coaching between the two teams. So in order to reach 50/50 you are then saying you make up for it either in talent or pure execution.

On any given day the 'best' team doesn't always win. This is really the only reason most of us watch games other than our own teams. So even if you sum up that Bama has an edge, of course Georgia can still win.

The point was that in that scenario, it would be Bama playing at some level below their ability that aided a Georgia win. It's not that Georgia isn't one of the top teams in the game and is stacked with talent. When you add coaching decisions, adjustments, and their talent, it's hard not to pick them at something more than 50% vs Georgia.

Now that's from an outside observer to be sure.

No reports of the four CFP teams having COVID issues while many other bowl teams had it so bad they had to cancel.

Bama has some key injuries and is a less experienced team than UGA. I’d probably give UGA the talent edge at the moment, especially when you factor in players that were clearly undervalued coming out of HS.

There is a coaching and mental advantage for Bama, but there’s not many UGA starters that I’d trade for Bama starters(though one I would is at QB, and that is very important)

Nobody should be picking UGA to beat Bama until they beat Bama, if UGA plays their best game, I think a 50% shot at beating Bama’s best game is fair

You must mean Central Michigan
Y’all moved the ball fairly well, just couldn’t capitalize. Cincy was bullied in the trenches on both sides. Ridder had what seemed like 20 balls swatted down at the LOS

This is a tough one to pick, think I'm going to lean Georgia's way. Think they'll be better prepared.

idk, I think Kirby called off dogs at the 2:00 mark of the second quarter. Georgia coasted the entire 2nd half. I just rewatched the game and Georgia dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides.

I think the tight ends need to be the main focal point of the offensive game plan. Bowers is big and fast, and bad matchup for anyone and Washington is huge. Get all the attention on them and maybe Jermaine Burton or George Pickens gets wide open down field

Probably won’t win because I know from 2011 how hard it is to beat a great team twice…but if we do win we will 3peat

The game wasn’t completely in hand then and hopefully Kirby has learned to not take his foot off the gas too early. Backups saw a lot of action in the second half for sure, but those guys are good too. Michigan came out with a better plan in the second half, was just too little too late.

But WTF was that Michigan DB doing on the Jermaine Burton TD? Had good coverage and then just stopped and allowed a walk in TD

I can guarantee you Bama and UGA wouldn’t have reported a damn thing due to the forfeit policy.

I am not going to miss Vincent Gray, he's gotten burned quite a bit over his career at UM.

A mildly interesting note:

Stetson Bennett was on the scout team and played the role of Baker Mayfield in the practices leading up to the Rose Bowl in 2017.

Dude has been around a while and still has an extra year of eligibility thanks to Covid

I don’t think he’s the best option at QB, but at this point there’s no question he’s going to be the QB on Monday. Seems he has the support of the locker room too
