GAME National Championship Ohio State vs Notre Dame 7:30pm ET ESPN

That “finished 4th in their conference” deal is so meaningless with no divisions and incredibly unbalanced schedules.

They beat two of the teams that finished ahead of them in the conference, but they finished 4th because they played all of the other top B1G teams, going 2-1 against them while none of the other top B1G teams played each other.

Doubt they finish behind PSU and Indiana if those two had to play each other and Oregon
Honestly, the 12-team (and likely 16-team) CFP is rendering conference standings moot. It's like an NFL team winning their division. It's nice but obviously not important. We're moving closer and closer to mega conferences.

Mega conferences are already here, and it’s debatable if making the CCG is even worth it anymore. You lose the CCG under the current format, you’re likely gonna be at a rest disadvantage against your first round matchup and have an extra game’s worth of wear and tear

Hell, I don’t think of this season as a conference championship season for UGA

Yep. Like I said in the other thread you are going to see more 2 loss champs than undefeated champs in 12 team+ playoffs.

The Big 10 and SEC should just go to 32 teams each and have a NFLish model

4 Divisions with 8 teams each and then have a BIg 10 and SEC playoff with the winners meeting for the national title.

No they didn't, they lost in November and got a playoff spot as a consolation prize. Michigan Ohio State is the only game that matters.
To you. To the intelligent masses we all know that it only matters if you win the natty. But congrats on your consolation "prize". hang the banner

I've gotta be honest, I was expecting a bit of a meltdown from MnB, but this is...yikes.

They desperately want conference title games to still be meaningful. Once they expand to 16 though they really become meaningless without the BYE, I guess you might get a extra home game out of it but thats about it.

I've said it before, I wouldn't be shocked if CCGs are gone by the end of this decade.

ACC already talking about giving the regular season champ a bye and having the CCG played by second and third place.

One of the ideas soon to be discussed among athletic directors is changing the ACC Championship Game into a play-in game for the CFP with a matchup between the Nos. 2 and 3 teams in the conference standings. The regular-season champion would remain idle on conference championship week and be rewarded with an automatic bid into the playoff.

Lol this just sounds like some BS to try to shoe horn another team into the CFP.
They have sour grapes about Miami getting left out. Don’t blow 21 point leads to Syracuse and you don’t have to worry about it

The committee has to laugh at that shit right? It's not a championship if the 1st place team is sitting at home while the 3rd place team takes their place.

Gonna be funny when the ACC champ has 2-3 OOC losses and still gets left out of the playoffs
Or, is a top team and in that new ACC format ends up with like 3 weeks off including first round bye and gets run off the field because they followed Oregons lead and forgot how to play football in their time off.

And FSU last year.
FSU won the CCG, so that’s a different situation.

I think FSU should have got in last year, but after they didn’t show up for the Orange Bowl and the disaster they had this season showing how shitty their culture is, I’m glad they got left out

What good would that had done for the ACC this year?

They still only woulda got 2 teams in. And none of them woulda got past the 2nd round still.
