This is an over-reaction. Winning your conference still matters. When they rank NCs historically, most will consider NC that didn’t win their conference in be in the B tier

Joel Klatt had a pretty good idea on consolidating some of the CFB schedule.

Remove that free week that is normally just Army-Navy and move the CCG games up to that spot.

Move Army-Navy to the first game of the year. Can't think of a better game to ring in the CFB season tbh.

I say do that, and then remove non-conference games. Just play a 9 game conference schedule then a vastly expanded playoffs. Could even have multiple brackets like the NCAA/NIT. Your non-conference games are playoff bracket games.

I could see the removal of some OOC (preseason) games to compensate for the longer playoff season. Sucks for the MAC schools and other small conferences that get a nice payday from the big schools.

If they can reorganize the schedule so the NCG is either played on Jan 1 or the week after, I think that would be ideal.
 
National champions who didn't win their conference will become much more common with the expansion of the playoffs to 12 (soon 14 or 16).

Buckeyes are national champs. Don't care how anyone else "views" it or what "tier" they put it in.

FBS is basically NFL lite now. Winning a conference is akin to winning your division in the NFL, it's nice and might get you a better road in the playoffs, but in the end it doesn't mean shit unless you win the playoffs too.

Absolutely correct - guess our money hungry society pushed us to this. I liked CFB when the regular season meant more.

Then you get the sour grape SEC crowd who's butthurt they didn't have a team in the title game and in their minds it makes it "meaningless"

I'm not saying it is impossible to find, but "most" know who the champ is and have no clue who all they beat or lost to in order to get there.

This thing is expanding to 16, think we can all see that. We will have 3 loss and potentially even a four loss team in the playoffs. Think we are moving toward an AFC (B1G) vs NFC (SEC) format where the winners will play each other.

16 you are definitely getting 3 loss teams, but 4 loss teams would be a fairly rare occurrence, you might get 1 here and there but it definitely wouldn't be a annual occurrence.
