The Capitals parted ways with longtime goaltender Braden Holtby in free agency, turning to 23-year-old Ilya Samsonov as the primary starter for next season and Lundqvist as the backup.
This kid has looked ok in the few outings I saw him in, but I think I remember seeing him get lit up a couple of times to?

Samsonov was going to be the starter anyway. Hank was brought in for the 40 of the 60/40 split.

Phoenix Copley is the next to step up. Still completely fucking wild how that guy has made the NHL.

Ovechkin among 4 out; Caps hit with COVID fine

Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dmitry Orlov and Ilya Samsonov were all added to the NHL's COVID-19 protocol-related absences list, and the team was fined $100K for "social interactions" among team members who were in close contact and not wearing masks.

Probably for the best at this point. He didn't play much last year and none this year (that I am aware of). That will free up some nice cap space for the Blackhawks.
