Ohio State Targeting Defensive Coordinator at Oklahoma State/Jim Knowles

He's pretty old not sure he will leave.

why would tosu hire a coach from a conference that doesn't play defense?

well, to be fair, Okie State and Baylor were about the only teams in that conference that played defense at a level you could call "respectable", so I'll take it.

Pretty solid guy. Little leery about this season as he had an extremely experienced defense and most were multi-year starters. He grew this defense from freshmen and sophomores into seniors. Very aggressive though, so it’s at least a fun defense to watch.

Ohio State's issue isn't the defensive coordinator. It is their recruiting and development on the defensive side of the ball. They have become soft on defense over the last couple years. They don't have an elite DE like they have had for over a decade, with Nick Bosa, Joey Bosa, Chase Young, etc. They don't have the lock down CB's they have had for the past decade plus -- they don't have an Okudah, Lattimore, Conley, Arnette, Ward, etc. to lock down half the field. The guys they have can punish the weaker teams, but anyone who can match talent and play physical bullies them.

With the absolutely ridiculous amount of talent they had on offense this year -- there is no chance they should have lost two games. Now they have to hope Egbuka and Fleming can fill the big shoes left by Wilson and Olave.

Seems like a solid hire, and not a dude who will bolt for a HC job. Not having much continuity at DC has been a big problem for Ohio State of late. At minimum a decent upgrade to whatever the hell we were doing this year.
Whatever they were doing the last couple years. They needed a change, hope it works out. They will have a ton of experience coming back so the sky is the limit
