They're all gonna need $7.5 million/10 years.

That's the going rate for bigger programs.

The only reason Kiffin's contract extension was $7.5 million for only 4 years is because of Mississippi law.

Kiffin's always got a suitcase packed and a UHaul parked out back. Oregon could probably get him for the same money with the 10 year contract addition.

I agree on all of those except Sitake. Jeff Hansen of 247 reported that even the 3M-5M range is a big increase for Sitake

I rarely if ever remember him using “not OKG” after the fact in an excuse kind of way. It wasn’t even a thing he said a bunch in general. And It wasn’t necessarily a character thing, it could have just referred to they thought a kid had potential and is coachable and would do well in their system.

The issue with it ends up being it’s a great philosophy for a Boise State kind of program, where you don’t have access to big time recruits anyway and you want to get available kids with the most athletic potential who can be coached up to fit where needed in your system and you have a big focus on culture and motivation, but then when you move to a P5 program that does have more access to top recruits it end up being your own self imposed kind of handicap.
Yeah, others shouldn't listen to Ducks trying to explain it lol. He couldn't have been more wrong or misleading.

@Deep Creek OKG was about players that were obsessed with football in the same way the staff was. They lost out on lots of their kinds of kids and I never saw them knock them. That's not how he was.

They did talk about moral high ground stuff, but when you asked him about really what it meant it was about work ethic and finding guys that put in more than the minimum.

Outside of that, he told kids not to commit if they were not 100% in and they did not react well to kids that decommitted, but that didn't make them non OKG or whatever duck was blathering on about.

It's those things I didn't like when he was here and makes me laugh when others talk about trying to get him to fill a vacancy. He's a great coach, but this era doesn't suit his style.

Chris Petersens name has been thrown out there but I doubt he wants to come back to coaching.

Yeah, his name came up (again) during the USC search. Back when USC seriously considered hiring him...both sides decided that USC was essentially "too loud" for him because of all of the attention the program gets.

If USC was "too loud" for him...Oregon definitely is.

Not a slam on either program or Petersen...he just wants to be left alone to run his program and that's not happening at Oregon or USC.

Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense. The old MWC had some damn good coaches with him (Boise), Patterson (TCU) and Whittingham (Utah). They had some damn good games among them.

Now he and Patterson are gone and Whittingham is still going. Either Whittingham's adapted to the new day or he wasn't as much "that era" as the other two or that I thought he was. He still seemed like a lunch pail type guy but maybe I'm wrong. (There was an article in the Fort Worth paper about Patterson being asked by the administration to "ease up" on the players a little because his old way wouldn't fly with this new generation.)

I agree. I think the pressure at Oregon really got to Mario the longer he was there. He really didnt like getting booed at Autzen while the team struggled with Cal and Arizona. Miami is home and they’ll have a softer spot for him

Now he genuinely seems to want to be left alone to do behind the scenes leadership stuff, which is why I can’t understand why his name keeps coming up. As I said before, I don’t know the guy, so could be wrong, but the reasons he gave for stepping down don’t support speculation that he’s gonna land some big job anytime soon. He doesn’t seem like the guy who doesn’t mean that shit and is just looking for a way out when he says it.

He's known coach and is considered to be a very good coach, so his name is likely always going to come up. Kind of like Dungy in the NFL. He has stated countless times that he is done with coaching and his name still comes up almost every year.

There are just certain guys that, for whatever reason, their name always gets brought up. Sometimes, it's even specific to a certain team or school.

Heck, every time USC's job opens, Jeff Fisher's name seems to come up and everyone knows he's a shitty coach. But he has those "SC ties" so his name has to come up. Heck, unless I missed it, I think this is the first time I haven't heard Jack Del Rio's name come up.

Rumor is Oregon has their target and is negotiating a contract. Nobody seems to know who it is though. This has been kept very quiet

I'm stunned, I'm pissed, it's Charlie Weiss

The name I keep hearing is also hard to believe. I would start mocking myself if I posted it

All I've seen is the typical trolling chatter of urban, chip, and lane.

After watching this coaching carousel play out, I’m not ruling anything out. I would have never believed you if you said Lincoln Riley and Brian Kelly would be at USC and LSU respectively. We may have another shocker soon. Too early to know for sure

I was shocked. I was damn near obsessing over trying to find info on USC's search.

I remember Lincoln Riley's name being mentioned exactly 1 time. Some reporter (I couldn't even tell you who) tweeted a question that was along the lines of "Will USC swing big and try to get someone like Lincoln Riley?"

I don't know if USC had that guy killed or what....but I never heard his name again until it came out that they were close to a deal.

Has Nick Saban's wife been seen looking at houses in Eugene yet? Because it's not a real coaching search until that happens.
