Rivals has Lanning listed at the #132 recruiter in the country.

That list is crap. It has Rhett Lashlee at 22 and he hasn’t recruited and developed a QB on his own his entire career.

Sure, I'll admit it, I would have love to have seen Chip back at Oregon. I got really excited at the thought. But Oregon did their homework on this one and I think with all the resources Oregon had with this search and investment in the search, I think Oregon AD Rob Mullens found and made a great hire! I think Lanning is going to be an incredible coach that will elevate this program even more!

I am really excited to start the Lanning era, I can't wait to see the recruits he brings in, how he develops our current defense, which is loaded with talent, the more and more I look at this hire the more and more excited I get with the endless amount of potential this could be. This may very well be the hire we look back on in 3-5 years and simply go, "Wow."
That's it? We waited the whole weekend for your over the top response and this was all you came up with?

LOL

I was waiting to see how long this thread could go before being bumped.

6 hours.

That hire was a dud.

So much for pushing @HammerDown 's 'data space' to the limits.

Oregon talking to an NFL coach could mean either Rhule or even bigger, Meyer. Wouldn't that be something? Two years of USC wishing they got Urban Meyer, then get a surprise "Big" hire in Lincoln Riley, only for Oregon to snab Urban? Would be so fitting

It's said that Oregon is speaking with an NFL coach. My guess is it's either Rhule, Kliff, or Urban.

more realistic take the OD

mixed feelings
no experience as a head coach. worked with Chip not so much with Helfrich
No Oregon ties so while he says he is going to stay we have heard that before. ive never been on the side of hiring someone because of ties tho. Helfrich was an Oregon native and was the only coach going back to the 70s to be fired
so far his coordinators have been uninspired.
younger maybe can relate to players and vice versa more so than older coaches.
UGA defense looked good but scheme only gets you so far and the talent UGA has and had is and was better
while the coaches have left Mullens (the AD) has made solid hires in the past. Helfrich started good but fizzled out fast.
Taggart brought life back to the team in 1 year and brought Cristobal in on staff that led to him being head coach.
in a wait and see mentality for sure

Lanning may work out but Cristobal left Oregon for his alma mater and Wilcox turned down Phil Knight, kind of a gut punch isn’t it.
