I think the insanity defense is his only legit shot to get out of this or minimize it.
 
So far, the dude is a woman beater, abusive employer, druggie, bisexual, perverted, with a baby oil fetish. I don't see much interstate trafficking/racketeering. On the other hand, the jury might be so disgusted with his behavior that they might convict him anyway.

My understanding of the charges was that he transported sex workers across state lines to participate.

which I think only means he needs to have paid for the airfare or uber ride, not literally drove them across the state lines.

That's where I am on what we know thus far. Probably felony DV criminally. Lots of civil suits to follow.

However, this trial is expected to run into July and word is the feds haven't come close to playing their hand yet.
