P. J. Fleck NIL Quote

PJ has his excuse all lined up ahead of his crappy season..again, huh?

One of his players from last year is playing for WVU now…
Poorest state in the union and in a lower tier P5 conference…
:headscratch:
Fleck comes across as a douche to me so I can see where kids would be looking for excuses to move on.

"We had players that were here that are now gone, playing at another school that should be here playing right now. Because again, NIL. We didn’t pay them. We didn’t pay them enough. That is the fact of life. And I know that we all laugh at it but that is a fact. So if we want to keep players, all these guys we have, they won’t be here next year. Just making sure everybody understands. Our fans, [the good players] won’t be here. We’ll be a Triple-A ballclub for somebody else. That is the reality and the truth of the situation."

Poor Fred his team is about to be in Tipple-A.
Sounds to me like NIL has moved Minnesota from being a rookie league team to a Triple A club. He should be thankful

Let's see a top recruit is looking at Minnesota and LOUISVILLE and the reason he didn't choose the Gophers is because of NIL. That seems reasonable.

He committed to the Gophers(for like 7 months) decommitted, and like two weeks later signed with Louisville. I'm not saying it was solely because of NIL(because we suck), but that was a reason. Apparently he got like 250K.

I just don't get it. Of course they have to have some reasonably successful alum that would help with that kind of fund. They shelled out the money for their new stadium, why not pay to have good players playing in it?

There are a shit ton of rich alumni that went to Minnesota. I'm not sure why they won't step up the NIL game. They helped fund the new facilities as well. I don't expect them to do much with the bball team because we've sucked ass forever. But football has had some moderate success under Fleck.

I'd like to see Minnesota succeed in football, they can be a fun team to watch sometimes. I'm not sure what's gonna happen in basketball, but if football is this bad, I'm sure the hoops boys won't be good for a long time.

They don’t have rowing 🚣‍♀️ 🚣‍♀️ 🚣‍♀️ teams in D3?

I don't blame anyone for not helping the bball team. We hired someone who Northern Illinois didn't even want as the head coach. It was an atrocious hire. And the performance has backed that up with only winning like 6 conference games the last two seasons.

Everyone does (have some sugar daddies), Fleck’s argument is weak. If Minnesota can’t hang then the BIG should boot em out.

A lot of these suckers are going to take a cut in pay if/when they enter the pro ranks.
