PAC News

it also allows a little more texas access for recruiting.
there is also the central time zone and for people to pay attention
they see or hear SMU and automatically ignore them
and they miss where they played Maryland, TCU, Cinci and BYU to 1 score losses last year. and beat Houston.
in 21 beat TCU and UCF
im not saying that they will automatically come in and win the Pac but I think there would be some entertaining games

My view on Texas is that it is about to become Texas and Texas A&M and then everyone else...

For a long time, Houston, SMU, Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech, etc. were in same league as other Texas schools so that gave them a little more competitivity in recruiting, name recognition, etc.

I feel like they are going to fall off now that they won't be able to schedule Texas and Texas A&M anymore. It will be kind of like how MTSU or Memphis are in Tennessee.

The Big12 teams may still have some legitimacy but SMU is even a tier below them. You will have tier 1: Texas and Texas A&M; Tier 2: Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech; and then a tier 3.

SMU could be a nice thorn in the PAC when it plays it's skillet bowl game or whatever it's called vs TCU.

I too think that you'll see more players from TX now head towards Ole Miss, MSU, Ark.. especially the ones who don't get chosen by UT, aggy or ou..

But there's enough talent that the ones that get overlooked will still make a difference for Tech, Baylor, UH, etc

I also think the best pitch for the new Big12 schools in TX is the higher recruited players who for whatever reason don't have success elsewhere, comeback to TX for a fresh start and playing closer to home

its already been Texas and Texas A&M in recruiting but that hasnt translated to as much on the field as they would like. other schools have always done what they have with less. some kids will still want to leave the state. some will still get offers from other big programs. I see no reason Texas or A&M wont still schedule other texas schools.

there will also always be players who want to play right away so they will choose a school losing someone at that position. there will be players who want to be close to home. or someone who chooses another school. some who will choose a program for the school.

Somewhat but Baylor and Texas Tech have had the advantage of being in the same league. That matters because the players that didn't get into Texas or just some recruits here and there will jump to them so they are not that far off. I think the gap is going to be a little greater in the future. These recruits will more likely go to a school like Arkansas vs. Texas Tech now.

Huh?

Since when has Arkansas not heavily recruited the state of Texas and not out-recruited Texas Tech?

That data is readily available to you via roster and recruiting rankings.

2023
Arkansas: 22nd
T Tech: 26th

2022
Arkansas: 28th
T Tech: 43rd

2021
Arkansas: 25th
T Tech: 74th

2020
Arkansas: 29th
T Tech: 48th

2019
Arkansas: 23rd
T Tech: 62nd

2018
Arkansas: 45th
T Tech: 72nd

There's the last 6 years. I didn't feel the need to look further than that.

My point is that Texas Tech goes from a perceived Power 5 alternative to Texas, Texas A&M, etc. to being on another tier below them. They are no longer in the same league similar to Memphis vs. Tennessee.

Also Arkansas recruits Louisiana heavily as well so using overall recruiting rankings may not be the best barometer but point taken.

in theory. but with a 12 team playoff their access to a playoff is probably greater in the Big XII than the SEC

they'll still schedule TX schools but they won't be current or future Big12 schools

I agree, but we are talking TX players.. Tech actually has a guy who can recruit now.. they had multiple kids get poached by schools like tosu, ND, Auburn.. DFW is going to be a warzone.. Between UT/aggy/ou/Tech and Arkansas.. think Tech will get pushed out

they will get the G5 treatment

they will get the G5 treatment
top 4 conference champs getting auto bids 2 more getting in. SEC and Big 10 with 12/14/16 teams still only have 1 conference champion. still leaving a spot for 4 more champs. I believe that the ACC, Big XII and Pac 12 champs will still hold more clout than the current G5

I see Big12 being a step up from G5 but not Power5 level. They look to me a lot like what the Big East was from 2004-2011 or so. Now if they can poach some of the Pac12 teams, notably Oregon and Washington, they maybe more on the level of the ACC.

short of Clemson the other 8 Big XII teams have been better than the ACC.

Your point was "These recruits will more likely go to a school like Arkansas vs. Texas Tech now."

My point is they basically already do.

I didn't say Arkansas only recruits Texas. Just that they heavily recruit Texas to the point that over 10% of their roster is from Texas. That could be a very conservative estimate. A quick scroll of Arkansas rosters will show you that.

2023 66 recruits from TX at 5 and 4 starts

A&M 9
Texas 9
TCU 6
LSU 5
Oregon 5
TT 5
Oklahoma 4
Note Dame 3
USC 3
Alabama 2
Baylor 2
Clemson 2
Houston 2
Ole Miss 2
Arkansas 1
Boise 1
UGA 1
Michigan 1
Nebraska 1
Ohio State 1
Utah 1

Meh Texas recruits are over rated. I’ll take Georgia and Florida recruits everyday all day over most of what comes out of Texas.

lol.. you keep doing that..

I get what your saying but what I meant is that it would factor more with recruits that Texas Tech could be recruiting now.

I'll be nice and give you a tip. Go look at the rosters of Bama, Georgia, LSU, Clemson and Ohio State and look for how many Texas recruits they have.

Then see how long it has been since a team with a roster filled with Texas recruits has been in the national championship game.

We can talk after that.
