PAC News

But no one else is calculating the new CFP money either. When that hits in 2026, look the fuck out ... the SEC and the B1G will bury everyone at that point.
They're already buried six feet below ground level. Are they going to dig 'em up and bury 'em to a depth of eight feet? Ten feet? Or just throw some more dirt on top of the grave to make humps? Dead is dead no matter how much dirt is on top of 'em.

Attendance and TV Viewership are obviously important.

They are in combination for sure. From what I'm told, the networks value those +4 million viewer games and pay according to how many potential games like that those conferences can generate. But they really don't give one shit about how many butts are in the seats at those televised games. They're paying for how many eyeballs are watching from recliners and sports bars. If they did care about stadium attendance, ESPN wouldn't even pay to broadcast the Bahamas Bowl where there were 800 people in stands.

But the schools should damn well care about how many are in attendance. While media revenue is divided evenly, revenue from home games ain't and that is a huge difference. Schools don't have to share that with the opponent. Not hard to see how a sell out at Texas will generate more than twice the revenue than a sellout at Baylor if ticket prices/concessions, etc are the same. Even 100% attendance at Baylor won't generate as much revenue as 75% attendance at Texas.

BTW, I am not saying this is a good thing. I recognize that it's good for my team, but probably not best for CFB.

Right now it's like $75 million to $50 million-ish, all in. When the CFP hits, it's going to go to $110 million to $55-%60 million-ish. So, yeah, gonna go from 6 feet under to 10 feet under.

100% correct.

Did you read his entire interview? It’s posted somewhere on this thread.

He also thinks the PAC will get a deal in 50mm a school (which no one else believes), says he and ASU are a packaged deal, that just one more defection and the PAC is done, and he says that multiple schools are talking to the Big 12.

It was so out of character for a president to make some of those statements even if true that it felt like he wanted it there to send messages.

yeah there some news circulating that ESPN doesn't have the money that they offered prior.. it's gonna be much lower than the 27-29 estimate

no he believes that after all money per year, media, bowls, playoff, march madness that the payout will be around 50.

I am wondering if that is a made up quote. He was honest as hell, but no way he said that last sentence.

I don't know but here they are:

There is more but its surprising to say the least at some of the comments. I think he was sending a message the PAC has to be within a couple million of the Big 12 or like he said it is an easy travel schedule for him. He also indicated if he goes then ASU goes and the PAC is done at that point.

I think it’s also to squash an uneven revenue sharing thoughts that a few schools may be pushing.

I read excerpts and he was really, really surprisingly honest. It's the last sentence about the uniforms that suddenly seemed out of character to me.

Was about to rip this as being from Outkick, but then saw he just is reporting on Andrew Marchand's reporting. Marchand is the gold standard for reporting on CFB media. Really connected. He is a good Twitter follow and has a great podcast.

Totally shitty that they would report this and not even link the original article, especially because it's behind a paywall.

Yeah I didn’t get to read the original article but I had heard of Marchand before. I’m not a huge fan of outkick ether but there wasn’t much else out about this.

This really puts Kliavkoff in a bind to get this done by April 15 Which is not happening barring a miracle.

5 Year Average College Football Attendance Rankings:

37. Oregon - 42,205
35. Missouri - 43,570
30. Mississippi State - 46,169

Both of them still averaged more fans than you did over the last 5 years.

Not a fair comparison when one of the years no fans were allowed to attend for Oregon.
If you adjust for COVID, Oregon is ahead of Missouri and slightly behind MSU.

Iowa State holding strong at #24 in the 5 year average ranking and at #28 in the 2022 ranking.
It's my fault for the slip, as I only went to 4/7 games last year.
Hoping for a better 2023!
