PAC News

this is exactly what it feels like comparing streaming channels to a cable channel when it comes to live sports.. streaming seems 15-30 seconds behind
That and the lack of a button to quickly jump back and forth between two channels is what I miss most. I have to turn off Twitter or I start getting these notifications of another TD scored against Oregon, as an example, before I see it on TV.

Hulu TV and YouTube TV provide an identical service as basic cable, but it streams through an app. It has a lot of the same features.

But you keep missing the main point ... it's not whether they have ION or not. They do. It's whether your average fan is going to be watching ESPN or ION for sports. PAC fans will go watch ION. Most other fans won't. A lot of fans will easily go to sports channels - ESPN and FoxSports. They aren't going to go, hey, maybe there is a game on over on ION. You are making this way harder than it needs to be.

LOL, I just googled and found out that ION was just added to YTTV, and HuleTV does not carry ION right now.
watching ion or espn or fs1 or ABC you keep saying this but people arent doing this. they look at the games that are on. my provider shows me that Oregon is playing Washington, Ohio State is playing Wisconsin. Alabama is playing Texas A&M Oklahoma is playing TCU. it doesnt tell me what channel. i press the arrow over to it and enter and the cable box changes it to that game no matter what channel its on.
no one is going to look at ION tv 5Oregon vs 4Washington both undefeated they hate each other with the last four games being 30-27 in OT, 35-31, 26-16 and 37-34 and think yeah but its on ION im not going to watch ION tv.

PS all of this is pretty moot since ION isnt really in the mix anyway

What'd be wrong if the PAC 12 took the old Big 12 path staying at 10 and playing a true round robin? :noidea:

SMH ... congrats, you get to have all the games on ION TV. Unreal.

If ION is really serious about getting into sports broadcasting it makes sense for them to do this. Honestly, if I were them, I'd probably overpay what is conceived to be market value to secure the rights. I don't see much difference in ION getting broadcasting rights and TBS getting rights to games in the 80's and early 2000's.

Good move for ION, not so sure it is for the Pac12/10 though.

They could start with something that would appeal to a larger audience.

Something like club quidditch or maybe ultimate frisbee.

While I can agree the Pac12 may get a game or two that is watched every year no matter what station it is on, overall they will lose exposure an eventually $$$.

John Skipper is insane and that explains most of the problems ESPN has had:

“I think that the ACC should expand or merge with the PAC-12, which now has 10 teams. I would take eight of those teams, change my footprint and have a 24-team conference with a western division and their ACC network would expand to the front coast. You could probably force a renegotiation with ESPN for a new deal. And you could solve both problems. The ACC would expand its footprint, get more money and compete with the SEC and the Big Ten,” Skipper suggested.

This isn't on the PAC but didn't have anywhere else to dump this one.

Yep.. even if the Pac dwindled down to 8 schools (leaving wazzu and the beavers behind).. it's not enough to add to the ACC and think they will be avg over 55 per school. Perhaps if you cut down the ACC schools in a merger.. you can get that closer to 50.. but FSU/CLemson/UNC won't be happy regardless

BTW UNC is now echoing the same stuff FSU did..they want unequal revenue as well
