PAC News

No. No it’s really not.

Gotta side with the Auburn fan here. Cuz who the hell still watches that crap (other than maybe occasionally out of boredom/pure entertainment).

And I’d have a hard time taking someone seriously on any topic if they actively followed pro wrestling.

this would be bad news for Oregon and Udub.. they aren't raising the payouts

We pretty much knew that stuff and it's obvious why the university presidents were against it.

These TV contracts are fluid. There is a base rate, but More eyeballs = Bigger media payouts to conferences and more money paid out to each school. Hence forward looking annual payouts are simply a 'projection'.
i.e. Adding teams would not necessitate a renegotiation of the B1Gs TV contract.

Oregon by itself would seemingly add eyeballs ($$) to the payout pool. However, 12 of the Big 10s teams get more eyeballs than Utah and Washington.
15 of the Big 10s teams get more eyeballs than Cal and Stanford.
Therefore, Utah, Washington, Cal, and Stanford would make for smaller pieces of the pie to current B1G teams. The viewership of those 4 might go up if playing the likes of Ohio St, Michigan, and Penn St, but I'd think break even or de minimus.

As is typically the case. Notre Dame is the crown jewel of teams not already in the SEC or Big 10.

Oregon and Udub add to the eyeballs but they are going to dilute the per annual payment.. It's not ND

I agree with Oregon adding eyeballs at current face value.

However, Udub at current face value adds less eyeballs than 12 of the 16 (to be) Big 10 teams. It's a loser.

Washington playing a Big 10 schedule would likely increase their #34th average eyeballs though. Would it be enough to get to break-even ($$) on them?

problem is.. Oregon doesn't raise the value enough for them to get the same amount as everyone else..yes they are a better CFB program than several others but to TV executives, they aren't ripping the current agreement for them plus Udub.. If it were ND...different story

It truly depends how good they are regarding how many eyeballs tune in.

If Oregon and/or Washington were to continue winning 9+ games/yr their average viewership will certainly increase by playing a Big 10 schedule. Particularly against the likes of Ohio St, Michigan, and Penn St. Also just by eyeball population of the Midwest.

Few if anyone expected Washington to be an 11 win team in 2022. That's likely why their viewership was so low at #34.

Week 13
Oregon @ Oregon St (3.56 million).
Washington @ Washington St (2.38 million)

Week 12
Utah @ Oregon (2.54 million)

Week 11
Washington @ Oregon (3.63 million)

Week 8
UCLA @ Oregon (3.34 million)

Week 3
Michigan St @ Washington (2.79 million)

The season 'averages' don't reflect some of those games. Particularly early on when nobody was expecting much from them. Like I said, if Oregon/Washington can continue to be competitive then their numbers would certainly improve playing Big 10 schedules. Particularly Ohio St, Michigan, Penn St.

Seems there’s some bluster on the tweeter that Colorado may rejoin the B12. The only reasons I could see them doing this is because the deal wont be nearly enough money for linear or the money is there But on streaming. Because why the fuck else would they bail this soon? Seems like UO and uDub aren’t leaving for the B1G yet.

From a recruiting perspective, given where Deion is getting recruits, and wants to recruit, it makes more sense to go to the Big 12. I think they'll be more likely to get players from Georgia, Florida, Texas and Louisiana, then they would California. If I was Colorado, I'd rather play a Big 12 schedule than a new P12 schedule. Overall, I think it will be tougher to recruit from California than it will be those other states.

Yeah Deion wants back in TX.. has a lot of connections in the DFW area

But lol at Colorado... Their only asset is Coach Prime, they are terrible in all sports, they don't pack the stadium and don't travel. Like Deion but right now, feels like a gimmick until he proves he can turn them around. Big12 will take anyone in, so if I were CO, i'd jump at the chance

I get that and all, but Colorado’s gotten recruits from Cali before While playing in the Big8/12. Wasn’t McCartneys son in law( qb that died, Aunese) from Cali?

I just feel like it’s weird them jumping to the B12 all of a sudden. Feels like they know something else.

lol “anyone”

Sorry your dream for the B12 to die is slowly slipping away.

Big Ten moving quicker than people originally thought. Colorado and Arizona aren't stupid. They know what's about to happen and they're trying to be proactive and get a spot into the Big 12. I don't think they're the most desirable PAC 12 teams available so they need to act decisively in order to get a spot.
