PAC News

many agreed based on certain factors. If they would have grabbed Boise and App state instead of BYU and Houston the conversation would probably still be they grabbed the best G5

i also forgot to mention Boise State who has even more than SDSU. i started with SDSU because thats what the conversation was.
Won’t disagree. But I think byu was key because of their national following. If they didn’t grab them and the PAC did as well as SDSU, I don’t think the PAC rumors of people leaving would be happening.

Frankly, Pac12 would be in bad shape no matter what they did. You can't just lose UCLA and USC and move on as we are seeing...

The only way Pac12 could have potentially survived is if they had picked up OU and Texas over 15 years ago and even then it might be questionable.

B1G and SEC are just running off and leaving everyone right now.

Yep. With USC/UCLA leaving, the PAC is in a similar position as the Big 12 was when Texas and Oklahoma decided to leave.

The only difference is the Big12 is in a better spot geographically (more central to the nation) which opened the door for better expansion candidates that will keep them somewhat relevant. I do think they are Big East 2.0 now.

I just don't think the Pac12 has enough going for it with the West Coast cultural headache to stay a float.

The teams, on paper, are just as capable as Big12 but their region of the country doesn't allow for a lot of expansion.

Larry had the right idea..i don't understand his need for RSNs for individual schools.. Had he allowed UT to keep the LHN network and tie in everyone else's 3rd tier rights to a PAC network.. Cable and Satellite companies would have had to carry it. But we know how that turned out..

But I agree I think there is too much "dead weight" and eventually schools like UT and SC would have left to either the BiG or SEC. I'm happy for the way it did turn out though, had it happened with Scott's original plan.. I think UT/LA schools/ou would be in the BiG right now.. No offense to the BiG but I'm done traveling to Flyover country and most midwest spots.. Will be in Ann Arbor next year, followed by Columbus though :)

It could also be argued that Texas to the SEC may have been inevitable. The only reason that the B1G looks good is "Academics". However the SEC was better cultural and geographic fit long term with Arkansas, LSU, and other schools. I can see Texas A&M not going to the B1G and running to the SEC and Texas would have eventually followed suit.

Also, I am not sure if B1G would have wanted Oklahoma.

BiG never wanted aggy.. Pac didn't want ou/osu/tech/ku when UT pulled out over the LHN deal either.

UT under it's old President wouldn't even entertain the SEC.. he was a snob for academics which is why his preference were always in the PAC and in the BiG. Oddly enough.. Stanford nixed a move of UT and aggy back in 1990..they were the only school to do so and back then it had to be unanimous. BiG considered UT but did not want aggy (who then were ready to bounce to the SEC).. then the BiG said they were good with just PSU being added.

Texas without Aggy won't work long-term, IMO. SEC would have added Aggy and Texas would have had problems it has now with recruiting being taken over by the SEC and Aggie.

Financially, Texas would be fine in B1G but recruiting would become a headache.

it would be a headache because the recruiting footprint isn't there elsewhere.. UT took the #1 player in Louisiana and a top 5 player from FL who happened to be the #1 RB recruit a year ago.. UT hasn't done that since Simms came from NJ.. and of course, Bijan (AZ). They are already getting expert picks for this cycles #1 RB (Gibson) out of FL as well.

I think Texas will get a recruiting boom in the SEC. Aggie did but Aggie failed to really take advantage of it in their 10-year stint. Aggie now has to compete with the Longhorns so it is no surprise they are upset about it. I don't think they fall off as bad as they did in the Big12 but they will be the 2nd team again in Texas.

yeah they need a big year on the field to stay elite on the trail

Jimbo has already passed you fools and the gap will only widen. In three years you boys will be plotting how to blow up the league with scandal to save face.

jimbo in 5 years at Texas A&M 39-21
Texas over the same 5 38-24
its not that drastic a difference

While @Red_Alert and the other faithful Huskers like to point out, Texas under achieves. But when you look very closely, so does Aggie…and equally as well.

Aggie’s performed just about like they did in the Big 12. So will Texas. But both will be paid A LOT more money now to underperform…as if either needs it.

they've only had 1 10 win season since 1998.. it's crazy, especially not really taking advantage when UT was down the past decade plus

I think it will be rough if they don't break out this season to like 9 wins.. it feels like their donors are on a wait and see approach with Jimbo this season. Honeymoon is definitely over, they won't go blindly spending money in recruiting anymore.. You can tell that just with the portal so far.

That said they still have an elite DL, elite skill position players..albeit they aren't deep. They have to overcome the OL which is at best a work in progress right now. Big season coming up

You know as well as anyone that both Longhorns AND Aggies will spend money blindly on a lot of things… and do so willingly…without regard to the ROI.
