Phil Knight Cold Calling The SEC and B1G

I don't have time to get the graph, but it showed 2027 dollars with the SEC at $115 million per team, the B1G at $110 million, and then the other 3 at about $52-$56 million. Not sure the B1G move raises them up that much, and could even slow them down. UCLA is dead weight. What will be interesting is what happens to the PAC and B12. Let's say the B12 absorbs 4-6 of the PAC. Then the PAC is really dead mane walking, moving back to G5 levels even with Oregon and Washington. ACC still stays the same, at 50% of the Big Boys. The B12 likely jumps up to about $60 million per team.
Wait a minute. Did someone hack your account? This can't be you. You've been defending the other dead weights I've pointed out.

To defend UCLA, they have one of the greatest Basketball Programs in history and their Football was in the top 3 all-time Pac12 programs (arguably even #2 behind USC). They have definitely fallen on hard times in modern era but so has Nebraska. Difference is that UCLA just doesn't have the fan base. Their fan base is even more bandwagonish than USC and doesn't show up unless UCLA is a top ten team (which has been very rare).

UCLA brings the Rose Bowl. That is probably another intangible that made them attractive to the B1G.

You sayin the Big12 is stable and don’t lose schools? :ranger:

More stable than/likely won’t lose schools to ACC or Pac.

Less stable than/would likely lose schools the other 2.

Wut about dem highlighter ducky uni's on there doh?

Eyesore unis are still just unis.

An entire eyesore FB field is a crime against humanity and should be punishable by death. :lm:

I'm afraid both are doomed ralphie....at least in regards to generating anything close to B1G and SEC level revenue. They'll do good to get 40% of that from what I'm reading.

You could choose an all star team from the 22 teams that will be left in the two leagues and not create a big stir with the broadcast folks. BYU's LDS around the globe and Kansas hoops are probably the only two "brands" that move the needle on a national level...at least in media eyes. I know that'll disappoint OD but.................
The idea of generating even half of what the B1G and SEC are going to get when this realignment is done has long ago left my mind. I would just like WVU and anyone else in our conference to have a chance to compete for an NC with those two conferences. Yeah it’ll be pretty much impossible but still to have that chance. No sure we’ll get it though if each of those 2 conferences go to 24 plus teams.

It won't matter truly what either conference does, IMO. You've removed the flag ship programs with the largest television markets from each conference. It includes 3 blue blood programs and 4 programs with national brands.

The television deal was already weak when they had those programs -- now you take them out of the equation and it will be next to impossible to compete when you have 40 programs bringing in 100 million a year. I actually feel bad for the fans of teams outside the two superconferences. They will end up on the outside looking in, which is why you see guys like Phil Knight calling to ask conferences to consider Oregon, as he knows the writing is on the wall.
BYU is better than Oklahoma and Texas combined

If anything, the Big 12 upgraded

and once you add Utah to the mix it will only be a matter of time before SEC and Big Ten schools start giving the Big 12 a phone call

I think it's obvious that existing dead weight is different from paying to have new dead weight, right?

Example, using $100 Million to keep the math easy:

14 B1G schools each getting $100 million. Conference gets $1.4 billion per year.

Bring in USC who can generate $100 million extra, UCLA who can only generate $50 million. Conference now has 16 teams and $15.5 billion in revenue.

Each team now gets $96.875 million. That just cost each team $3.125 million per year to bring un UCLA. My guess is they see UCLA has some long term potential, and maybe you only get USC if you also have to get UCLA.

You haven't responded to my other post about why the Vandy's of the world exist. I'd like to get your take on that.

We’re pretty screwed here too, obviously. But whatever happens, it was all worth it to know that a desperate Phil Knight resorted to cold calling the big 10 and SEC and was shot down.

@OregonDucks thoughts?

Welcome to realignment purgatory.

Nothing is official yet. Still a work in progress and I would never bet against Phil Knight and Oregon.
Uncle Phil better pay off that Notre Dame buyout if Oregon (plus some other schools) wants a spot before the ACC collapses.

I am not concerned at all right now. No way Oregon is on the outside looking in at the end of all this. We are still getting top recruits. I was also driving around yesterday and realized the U of O is simply too big of a school to be left out, as I was reminded with seeing the multiple cars with the Oregon Ducks themed license plates.

Just accept USC doesn't want you (or Washington) in the BIG right now, bro. It'll go down easier.

I am fully aware USC doesn't want us in the B1G right now. They took UCLA with them to further keep us out of the So Cal market in recruiting. But in the end, the B1G will make the choice not USC.

That could be 10 years from now though. Lot changes in the recruiting game in 10 years. You know that, or you wouldn't be bitching.

I see a ton of Western Washington University plates. They should probably get a spot too. Just need to bring back their football program first.

here in NC, I see a lot of East Carolina and App State plates. i bet its only a matter of time before the SEC invites ECU AND App.
