Playoff LOLs

HS recruiting doesn't really mean much these days. Just look at the teams remaining in the CFP.
It means at least something. Sure teams can do fine in a the portal but im not sure any ACC team is killing it.

FSU went 13-0 last year largely because of the portal. SMU had a ton of transfer starters from the portal, and Miami had Ward at QB. Even teams like Louisville, Cuse and GT were heavily impacted by it.

We don't know where all these players will end up. Let's wait and see. FSU is certainly off to a good start.

Miami was the highest rated recruiting class in the ACC this year at #14. GT came in at #18, FSU at #20 and Clemson at #27. They're behind and seemingly by a lot.
Absolutely true. Definite gap.

But, the B1G is considerably behind the SEC as well IMO. Of the top 25, the B1G has 8 and the SEC has 12 and 7 of those are in the top 10.

The silver lining is the B1G still wins in the money department. And that is the biggie nowadays.

B1G - #4, #5, #9, #13, #15, #22, #23 and #25
SEC - #1, #2, #3, #6, #7, #8, #10, #11, #16, #17, #19, #21

Uh, are you suggesting Oregon, UGA, Texas, and OSU don't recruit well from HS ranks?

The top teams recruit well from HS, and supplement through the portal.

Half of Indiana’s team was from the portal. Recruiting means something but it was pretty much everything before the portal. Recruiting and development of players. One year can change a program now with the portal. More of a competitive balance for teams that aren’t elite at recruiting. The result could likely still be the same, elite programs winning it all. We will find out the next couple years.

No, they obviously do. But, I'd guess a team like Oregon has half their starters that are transfers. That's pretty significant. Those other ones you mentioned also have significant players from the portal. Not as much as Oregon, however.

Oregon signs top 10 hs and portal classes

Yeah that kinda proves my point, at least in regards to Oregon. No team is going to be successful just focusing on one.

At the same time you cant ignore hs recruiting and be a title contender

Sure, but getting back to the original point, if you're top 30 in hs recruiting, that doesn't eliminate you from CFP contention because of the portal.

Cfp contention, or title contention?

And if a school ratholes a lot of their NIL money, they can use it on players that have already proven themselves at the college level instead of "paying on the come" for lack of a better description. Less risk both financially and cost of development...then losing them to another bidder.

NIL and portal have changed a lot of things.

I was moreso talking about CFP contention with those ACC schools. But schools like SMU, ASU, IU were heavily reliant on the portal. Even Oregon is pretty reliant on it too, at least this season. Out of the 8 remaining Id say ASU and Oregon are the two most reliant on it. But even ND, Texas and OSU have their starting QB from the portal.

You can definitely make the cfp without a top recruiting class.

But you cant win it.

Yeah, that's all I was saying. Although I would say if a team like Oregon does win it all, they wouldn't have come that close without the portal additions. And that's not to slight them, but there are a lot of key guys they got from the portal.

Same with OSU.

You need both.

Sure, OSU has had to as well. But I think it's obvious that Oregon has used it more to their advantage. Just in the amount of starters that came from the portal.
