Playoff LOLs

That’s why some bad football schools will get absorbed into the big ten and SEC eventually.

Potentially. We will see. I could fathom the BIG 12 attempting to absorb the ACC and pushing for 3 major conferences.

Clemson and FSU want into either the SEC or B10. I could easily see the big ten taking Duke and North Carolina. The scraps might be absorbed into the big 12 but the scraps of the bottom of the ACC combined with the best of the G5 and the scraps of the old B12 is functionally a lower tier conference that will likely be pushed out of a two team super conference system.

These TV networks aren't going to pony up more money to add Duke and UNC. They'll have to take a pay cut (from TV revenue) to get in the league.

Either way, these super conferences are incredibly stupid. And this all stemmed from USC being absolute dog shit for the last decade and a half and thinking they are more important than they are. So fuck them. They deserve all the mediocrity, and ND ass beatings, coming their way.

Maybe. Or they’ll take the money being spent on the ACC, not renew it and roll it into the B10 or SEC.

It’s all fucked up now. I just predict that’s where the fucked up settles. Clemson and FSU aren’t satisfied with the pay form the ACC and the ACC has little leverage to ask for more. And now that universities can directly pay players, having those extra millions is a game changer.

conferences aren't going to add schools that make the average payout smaller. The only schools in the ACC that could potentially push the needle are Clemson, FSU and *MAYBE* Miami. Everyone loves the sound of UNC and UVa, but they have never been big football ratings draws. Mostly because they suck at football. and if we are being honest, Clemson and FSU aren't as attractive as most people think.

ESPN has a vested interest in the ACC surviving with the ACC Network, and the ACCT being the best ratings draw in basketball. The ACC just screwed up with the longevity of their current deal. No question they'd get more than the B12 if they were on the open market.

Nobody wants Miami and FSU is a complete dumpster fire right now. Let them and Clemson rot.

The big 12 and ACC are still solid hoops conferences. Hoops revenue is enough of a thing that it keeps them at the table.
Both conferences seemed to have dropped a notch this year. At least in comparison to recent hyears. Still early in the year though.

How long until the playoff is just the 6 best teams in the B10 vs the 6 best teams in the SEC? We have to stop pretending that the G5 & B12 deserves a shot.
I like that the conference champions make it to the playoffs. After that, if you are chosen, you're lucky and should be thankful.

The best middle ground would have been an 8 team playoff, with the P4 conference championships giving 4 auto bids and then 4 at large spots for the top 4 remaining teams, irrelevant of conference. Easy. Simple. And small enough where it wouldn't be the shit show we have now while still guaranteed to capture the best teams nationally.

Ok, but it's over for the ACC -- it's just a matter of time now. The ACC is super behind both in terms of TV contract but also NIL. And their TV contract isn't getting better.

They're behind in terms of the TV contract, but I'd argue teams like FSU, Miami and SMU have some of the highest collectives in CFB. UNC appears ready to start giving more as well. If the league can stay together, the upside is certainly there. If FSU and Miami can ever figure it out and be good at the same time to elevate the rest of the league, along with Clemson, it can compete with the B1G for the 2nd best football conference.

Miami was the highest rated recruiting class in the ACC this year at #14. GT came in at #18, FSU at #20 and Clemson at #27. They're behind and seemingly by a lot.

no autobids based on conference names.

Auto bids for the 5 highest ranked conf. champs., but no auto byes. The auto byes for the #9 and #12 ranked teams has to end.

HS recruiting doesn't really mean much these days. Just look at the teams remaining in the CFP.
