GAME Playoff Selection Show thread (11 am cst ESPN)

That's his whole gimmick.
I hope that isn't toward me. I argued til I was blue in the face for the B1G the last couple years against the SEC.

The B1G's problem this year -- the teams who were supposed to be good are far from it this year. Michigan is mediocre. USC is mediocre. Washington is mediocre. Michigan State is mediocre. Wisconsin is mediocre. Go down the list.

The B1G is the 2nd best conference, by far, IMO. I think the committee set a precedent this year and we will see teams cancelling big OOC and instead scheduling all cupcakes in OOC, as strength of schedule means little. All you have to do is win.

This will be the Tide's 3rd time in the Hall of Fame-Outback-Reliaquest Bowl in Tampa with all three matches against Michigan:
I think both teams and fans will care.
Michigan fans might.
I'm waiting to see how many bama players opt out.

Guys, my mind has to be out of whack for thinking this way. I will try to explain. Make it make sense. I understand these teams screaming "we had a tougher SOS, our SOS was unbelievable, nobody had the SOS we did, etc". Some of these teams screaming these things beat the "hard/tough" teams on their schedule and lost to the "inferior" opponents. Does that make sense from a playing a tough SOS view?
FWIW, team X (9-3) beat an 8-win & 9-win conference opponents doesn't give you the "cushion" to lose to a 4-8 team.
FWIW, team Y (10-2) beat two 10-win teams doesn't provide an excuse to lose a 3-9 team & two 7 win teams.

I looked this up just for shits and giggles. Now, I am not saying transitive property works, but take Missouri for example. Missouri lost to 8-win Texas A&M and 9-win South Carolina. Now, Missouri did beat the Oklahoma team that beat Alabama, beat the Vanderbilt team that beat Alabama, and beat the Syracuse team that beat Miami. And what does Missouri do? Gets shut out badly when they play Alabama.

Michigan fans aren't going to care one bit. Our All-American CB has been sitting out since week 5. Our All-American TE sat out the Ohio game last week. I fully expect both of our DT's who are projected to be drafted in the 1st round to sit out the bowl game, on top of anyone else going to the draft.

It is a pointless game that means nothing. No reason to risk injury before the combine.

Why Texas? Truthfully -- Texas has the best team this year. The only reason Texas probably won't win is Quinn Ewers. I think Texas is the most complete team this year, but Ewers makes 2 or 3 throws a game that you just shake your head at.

I think Texas forces him out at the end of the year to give Manning the reigns at QB.
Who did Texas beat?

That's the problem with the SEC teams that are whining. They didn't lose OOC, they lost 2 games to 6-6 teams. All you had to do was one of the two and you are in.

The team that got affected the most by OOC was Clemson. They played and lost to 11-2 UGA, 9-3 USCjr. The loss to UGA put them in the teens from the get-go. If they had played GaSouthern instead and won, they would have been undefeated going into the Louisville game. The loss would have dropped them to top 12. They would have worked their way back into the top 10 until they lost a close game to the hot USCjr. They would have entered the ACC CCG around 12th-ish. The ACC win would have put them in front of ASU and they would have gotten a byte. They are the team that got OOC screwed.

The “you can’t punish them for having to play in a conference title game” logic only applies to the SEC.
It would apply to the B1G, and it obviously applied to the ACC. The further down the pecking order you go, the less chance it matters to you.

Michigan fans aren't going to care one bit.

That's why I said, might.. It is pointless. I haven't watched bowl games in years.
However, bama might use this game to find a qb for next season.

UGA is the sec champ. And they forced short fields all game. And we let Vandy get a garbage time TD.
And either way, it wasn’t a bad defensive showing in either case. You dumb.
FYP

Who did Texas beat?
I didn't even realize they played no one in the SEC other than Georgia twice. Texas was the best team Michigan faced this year. They manhandled us and this was at the beginning of the year when we were at full strength and had Will Johnson and everyone else.

Honest question. Do you think the ACC has 2 of the top 12 teams in football?

Being real -- you could take your pick of SEC teams more deserving. You could remove both SMU and Clemson, put in Bama and South Carolina and you'd have much better games and matchups. Hell -- throw Ole Miss in their too.
Being real -- I don't give a shit about the perception of conferences strength or who someone thinks is "more deserving". Its a bias that it proven wrong throughout a season time and time again.

Ole Miss: Lost to Florida. Florida got absolutely boat raced by Miami. Also lost to Kentucky. Kentucky got boat raced by Louisville.

Alabama: Lost to Oklahoma who is 6-6. Lost to Vandy who is 6-6 and lost to GA St and struggled with Ball St. Bama also struggled for the second year in a row to USF. People see the final score and don't realize that Bama was only up 5 with 6 minutes in that game.

South Carolina: Nearly lost to Old Dominion and butt fucked by Ole Miss

This isn't me trying to say that the ACC is good or making any definitive statement on the strengths of conference. Except that you don't fucking know, and picking playoffs based on spreads is the most retarded thing I've ever heard. There is almost no point to actually playing the games if that is the case.

And here my point is only proven even further. You don't even know who the teams are playing, yet willing to make definitive statements on who is the better team and what the better matchup would be.

Not to worry, them SEC boys are quick to opt out if not in the playoffs. bama might be good just to field a team.
It will be really interesting to see what the "other" bowls are this year because this is the first year where they really mean nothing outside the 12 team playoff.

I don't know enough about draft status -- is Milroe expected to bolt early? If Milroe plays I think Bama is going to have a huge advantage. Michigan will likely be without any of their top draftable players, which really hurts us on defense.

I will be interested to see some of our backups and I wonder if we'll finally see more of Jadyn Davis at QB? I think that's basically what bowls are now that aren't the 12 team playoff -- a chance to get your younger guys some game experience.

If Bama didn’t get blown out by a 6-6 team 2 weeks ago they’d be in. Nobody to blame but themselves for not being in.

You’re both right.

All I heard after this win was how bad UM was.. but that wasn't the point.. the point was how do you hold that against Texas.. UM was coming off a CFP title and has been a really good blueblood program. If Texas is having a down year when UM comes to Austin in '27, will the same people dismiss a road victory in Austin?

Like i said many times this season.. SEC schedule was always a selling point... until this year when I found out SEC schedule is subjective now.

I don't have to. Michigan played Texas, Oregon and Ohio. Texas was the most impressive team between the 3 of them.

I think the title game comes down to Texas, Oregon and Georgia. 2 of those 3 teams will face each other.

Georgia got the best draw, by a landslide. If I were Oregon, I'd be pissed. Oregon could have to face Ohio and then Texas just to get to the final.

While Georgia has who? Penn State😂
