Playoffs need to extend to at least 8 teams

I'd be fine with this IF...emphasis on the IF...we could get enough good OOC matchups between the P5 conferences to get some good comparison numbers. We don't get enough of those IMO.
Yeah true but I also wouldn’t be opposed to just going to 6. Two byes, getting those top 2 seeds would mean so much more

I doubt Cincinnati would have done much worse than Notre Dame.

Just sayin’

“Florida players from last night were 63% Freshman and Sophmore.
Oklahoma players from last night were 61% Freshman and Sophmore.

Both teams played two 5 star players (according to 247 Sports).
Florida had seventeen 4 star players and Oklahoma had nineteen 4 star players (Oklahoma had more players, but fairly equal).
Both teams played two 3 star players, but one of the 2 from Florida was a Heisman candidate (Whether you care for him or not, he's a Heisman Trophy Candidate).

The average star ranking of the players from last night was as follows:
Florida: 3.81
Oklahoma: 3.74“
JFC you're dumb.

Well Gaytor fans never let the facts get in their way.
Yeah, it's us that is avoiding the facts. LMAO.

You're right. OU is 10x better than bama this year. The bowl game proved it.

I’ve felt exactly this way for a while. That year with UCF always seemed like crap. Perhaps they made no friends claiming to be champs, but they were deserving to be in a tournament.

But, even before that....8 teams in a tournament is just awesome. All the blocks thrown up on it for years never added up for me. Move bowl schedules or eliminate games if needed. It’s all overkill anyway.

I like seeing common thoughts moving towards this, along with good solutions to make it happen.

They keep saying it devalues the regular season but to me it makes every game a potential playoff matchup if every p5 gets a bid.

I can’t see the season being devalued, though let’s go with that premise.

So what? The regular season can be devalued some. In Conference rivalries will still be a thing.

There is no reason this can’t be done or that more high level games in mid-late Dec can’t interlope over a bloated, uninteresting pre Dec 31 bowl schedule.

Zero point of sitting through shitty games and pretending it's a playoff.
You mean like the NCAA basketball tournament? That would totally suck compared to watching teams play with their top 5 starters sitting out

Nothing devalues the regular season more than cupcake games IMO. If all those "protectors of the regular season" want to increase the value of the regular season, they'd get rid of the shit games. They won't. They only want to have "part" of the regular season have value, not "all" of it.

always wanted 12. Top 4 get byes
That incentive sould increase a lot more interest in late season games IMO. The outcome of some games would have a ripple effect throughout other conferences. The jockeying for seeding would increase competition in addition to the jockeying to see who just makes it into the field.

Yep

That's the problem. The quest for perfection leads to poor OOC games. If there was truly no punishment (outside of wild card) for losing them then it would stand to reason they'd become more competitive.

And let's be honest. If you don't win your conference you can't complain about being left out.

Not the same. Both basketball and baseball are very different sports in that you can have elevated talent in a few key spots and have a shot a the upset. Football simply is not like that and you can scheme to negate another team's strengths if they aren't able to strike at other positions.

I can't believe I have to explain this to you.
