Pond Excavation & Build

Buy the dirt and put the water in yourself.
When I'm done with this pond I'll have roughly $40k into it, but the value of this property will increase at least $200k instantly.

I've no desire to move, but that's a good return on my investment when I croak and leave it to the kiddos to fight over or sell.
It was a no brainer and in the plan when I was writing the check and signing the title paperwork.
Of course I didn't say a word about my 'plan' for the property to the seller. LOL
The beauty of doing that here is that famous Georgia red dirt packs down good and holds water when packed. If I could find the land, I could rent the equipment and do it myself. I’ve built dozens of ponds at quarries. Gonna be making another one by the end of the year in fact

I live in the poultry capital of the US. Out of the 5 work days in a week, I probably get behind a chicken truck on the way to work 3 days on average.

I’m nose blind to rendering plants too. There’s not one near me anymore, they moved to a different location, but there was one maybe half a mile away as the crow flies growing up. The county water department converted it into a water treatment facility since then

Yep. Rendering plants stink. So do paper/pulp mills.

A friend of mine lived a couple miles from a paper/pulp mill in Panama City, FL. My car and clothes smelled like it for days after I'd go visit.

There’s a big pulpwood yard around here, but I think the mill is in Rome, far enough away that I don’t smell it

Paper mills aren't so bad.

It's pulp mills that really stink. The chemicals used in cooking unbleached or semi-bleached pulps are the culprits.

And yes, sometimes they are together in one facility.

I don’t know about Kentucky, but it’s legal to hunt over a feeder in Georgia. You can even use dogs to run deer towards you in the southern zone.

Why do you say hunting is bad enough?

I love wildlife.....
I get it and all,you kill to keep population and all down and for food( which Ill eat the hell out of it),but Im just not into killing animals........
Im not against it,just not anything I wanna do......

That’s fair. Was confused by the wording

Been illegal to bait here for awhile. Can’t have deer “congregating”. Chronic wasting disease, bovine TB some other deer fever, etc.

I think auto body shops lobbied for it personally.

Sorry.....I never explain my self to the fullest, but hey......

And I always thought it was illegal to bait wildlife......just seemed different to me when there were two other deer stands and no paths to them, but the 3rd one there was a beaten trail to it....just didnt seem right....

It’s been legal in north GA for as long as I can remember, south GA for probably 10 years. Hell, at golf courses around here, they hire government snipers to come in and thin them out.

For deer, I don’t really hunt over bait, don’t really need to, the fuckers are every where, but I dove hunt in millet fields and pheasant hunt in milo fields if you consider that hunting over bait

Best way to lure in coyotes is to tie a rabbit to a tree. I don’t like coyotes. Coyotes and wild hogs are the only animals in GA with a year round season with no bag limit. The hogs are more of a south GA problem though

Thats lame......

My father in law who lives on Kentucky Lake, used to bring up deer jerky, sausage and smoked meat every year for xmas.....
It waa all good until he showed me pics, cause he waa telling me how many him his neighbors were killing......

Well,I visited my f-i-l in Kentucky a couple of years ago and showed me a place a bunch of them called deer camp.....

They had some tree stand built around the woods, but looked like there was never a trail that lead up to them, except for one.....
I remembered two of the pics he showed of 4 deer at once feeding in the middle of the night, well that stand had a deer feeder full of corn that they would feed thru out the year then wait in the stand and blaat the shit out of them........

Fucking lame, its bad enough to hunt, but too get lazy about it and trap them is bullshit......

I never ate or took any more meat from him.....maybe its legal there,,I doubt it,but maybe.....

I understand your frustration.

I'm pretty liberal about what people do as long as the meat is for them. Paid hunters baiting though is shitty. Those guys with their hunting and fishing shows, baiting or fishing out of season to make money need culling. People loading up on 20-30 deer to sell it in a major city can damage a population by baiting and over hunting.

Keep in mind though, native americans, the true ecologist of the America's, did not hunt by this code of honor you describe. They baited their animals by hunting them at popular feeding and water spots. And they hunted at night using high terrain and moon light.

Our intelligence made us the apex predator. As long as people are feeding themselves and their family, I'm ok with them getting a couple of deer for their freezer. We must not be selfish though. Native Americans used every piece of an animal for survival. I waste far more.

I really dont think I could pull the trigger on an animal.......Once I looked at them stone cold in the eye, yheres no way......

Nebraska's latest law on baiting.

"It is illegal to hunt any big game or turkey within 200 yards of a baited area. An area shall be considered baited for ten (10) days following the complete removal of all such bait. The hunter and the animal must be outside of the baited area." Jul 8, 2021

That includes a salt block.

Like IP said, I don't need to bait deer or turkey around here they're so abundant.

I have these walking through my front yard on the regular.

I plant sunflowers every year for doves. I don't know if it is just Illinois or federal, but if you plant millet for doves, you have to wait a year to hunt the field.

The dove fields I go to are mostly on WMA land, so I assume they're up to code. My buddy has a big dove hunt every year in his grandpa's pasture, but the game warden usually shows up and there's never been an issue.
