yes, watching DePaul and Seton Hall duke it out on a Tuesday was much watch television.

The BET was must watch TV once it got to the quarterfinals. By far the most relevant conference tournament. Nothing in today's basketball even compares.

Last year's B1G tournament QF's, would have had been 8 NCAA tournament teams, assuming Iowa beats the Gophers in the 5/12 game. That would have been a hell of a day of bball.

It would be great basketball but the B1G needs the right matchups for the rivalry factor. The Big East had a lot of heated rivalries, which on top of great basketball, made it must watch TV IMO.

On top of that, playing in MSG only added to the allure

Playing in MSG did add to it. You just don't get same atmosphere playing at Bankers Life, or the United Center. It's a shame the B1G was atrocious in 2018 when the tournament was held at MSG. The best atmosphere there was for fucking Rutgers. Lmao.

With the size of these new conferences, it’s hard to have a great venue for everyone. ACC in Greensboro back in the day (before expansion) was great as well

college basketball started it's steep decline during these years. congrats on being the tallest midget, i guess

and the only reason why the Big East briefly eclipsed the ACC in relevance is because of expansion

The Big East tournament belonged in MSG. It was a good match. The Big Ten tournament doesn't belong in MSG. If the ACC ever announces that they are going to put their tournament in MSG, I'll disown the league.

The ACC already played the tournament in Brooklyn. If you are going to play in NYC, you mine as well play in MSG

Cheney was the man, but can't complain about 89 years of life. RIP coach...

i'm well aware. I was there. It was probably the worst ACCT I have ever attended. Brooklyn sucks, but is largely irrelevant. Nobody cares about Brooklyn and it symbolizes nothing. MSG is very much relevant and symbolizes a lot of things.

ACCT should always be in Greensboro IMO.

would work for me + the tears from the newbie brigade would be delicious, but this is never going to happen

Greensboro has hosted the tournament as many times as every non-Reynolds Coliseum venue combined has. Whether people like it or not, the Greensboro Coliseum is the ACCT. It attracts the biggest crowds and the best atmosphere. For the most part, the ACCT has tried to stick with a rotation, but every now and then they veered from that and would host it in Greensboro for 3-5 consecutive years.

With that said, I went to the DC ACCT in 2016 and had a blast. I think the ACCT rotation should be Greensboro, Charlotte, Atlanta and DC. For some reason, the ACC has soured on Atlanta and hasn't been back there since 2009. ACC disagrees with me, b/c the rotation looks like it is going to be Greensboro, Charlotte, DC and Brooklyn. Brooklyn sucks so bad. I went to both of the tournaments there and man, they fucking sucked. The atmosphere was horrible and the concourse at Barclays is bizarrely small. It's a weird arena, tbh.

The only thing that was notable about the Brooklyn tournament was the fact that there was a Duke/UNC matchup and the takes on twitter were hilarious. "Duke/UNC in the ACCT in BROOKLYN! Just like how Everett Case, Frank McGuire, Vic Bubas and Dean Smith envisioned it."

Honestly Charlotte makes a lot of sense as well. I've never been to Barclays but now that I'm back on the East Coast, I will check it out once they start hosting events again.

I live in Charlotte, grew up in the Winston-Salem/Greensboro area. Greensboro Coliseum just screams ACC and college basketball. I love living in Charlotte, but the (relatively) new arena in Charlotte just doesn't give you the same vibe. tbh, I view the Greensboro Coliseum as a true college basketball landmark.

The old Charlotte Coliseum, the original home of the Hornets, hosted the ACCT ever year from 1990-1994. I work at a hotel around that area, and you would have never guessed that a 24,000 seated basketball arena used to be there. It's wild.

That's cool. I grew up in Virginia, close to the UVA campus and went to all of their games in the early and mid 2000s.

those were dark days for UVa. Pete Gillen, lmao. Pretty sure he whined about how aggressive Darius Songaila was in the post. After that, Songaila started getting called for every ticky tack foul. Screw that guy.

Those were the years and then things got worse with Leitao. Leitao had one decent year with Singeltary and Reynolds but he was pretty terrible.

yup. They were co-ACC regular season champions in 2007. That was a pretty good UVa squad. Unfortunately, they were a one hit winner under Leitao.

so you got to experience the transition from University Hall to JPJ Arena? That's pretty cool

I did. I loved UHall but JPJ is something special.

What's really unique is that I moved out to Oregon for school and then got to experience a similar transition when Oregon moved from Mac Court to MKA.

that place opened up just in time for HOF Tony Woods to make his way to the Ducks

unique court, I must say
