That's why I think this saves the FO from themselves. They made that stupid contract and for all that money they couldn't survive benching him. But now that he is hurt they have the excuse of "well we would do better if our starting QB could play but we have to pay him all this money to go away for awhile".

One was brought this season but I think it was just settled. It would be really smart for any chick that he did this too to step up and make a claim and get some settlement money. He 100% will not let any of them get much traction because his guaranteed contract is voided if he is found to have more cases.

They can finally start kidding themselves and let the rebuild begin. I think it's safe to say he'll never play a game for Cleveland ever again, so it's time to take inventory of what they have, move some of their bigger contracts for draft capital and cap space, and start planning for the future. It's honestly the best thing that could have happened to them at this point.

The problem for them is that old man Aaron had the same injury as was back within 12 months. I agree they should figure out how to move on, but that contract is gonna be tough unless in all his free time he starts getting Bob Kraft type massages again.

Garrett's a great advocate for this. He himself, has been a model citizen of sportsmanship... except for that time he ripped an opposing QB's helmet off, bashed him in the head with it, and then lied afterwards that he'd been called a racial slur to justify it.

tbh, I'm not sure this is going to be a rebuild. Someone, whether coach/gm/owner, was pushing for him to play even tho he needed to be benched. They aren't going to cut him with that contract. There's a solid chance he's playing sometime next year.

Its a different injury, but he tore his acl when he was a freshman. He recovered fairly quickly (actually played a game with it torn) and played great the next year. So he's shown in the past he can recover fairly quickly.

I wouldn't be surprised if they draft a qb tho and try to build him up for a few seasons. Then cut Deshaun when he only has a few years left.
 
Holy shit, the contract situation is nauseating to look at. His cap hit in these last two years will be $73m each. They can get 2025 down to about $35m with a restructure that puts 2026 near $100m cap hit. That would also put 2027, when he isn't even under contract, at about $50m and would put about $25m into 2028.

Cleveland FO has to be out there looking for someone else to accuse him of misconduct!

That would be the smart thing to do, draft a QB somehwere in the second to fourth round and bench him for two solid years. Let him get up to speed playing as the scout QB against their own defenses.

So CLE will probably go the opposite direction.

Exactly. Getting a journeyman and/or mid-level pick and then focusing on management and building up other positions would be what a smart team would do. But of course, Cleveland will speculate who the next Josh Allen / CJ Stroud / Jaden Daniels is, and then mortgage the future (again) to get him. Because it's not smart. It's Cleveland.

Trade deadline hasn't passed. At this point I bet a 6th round with contingency kickers would get Trey Lance to CLE to finish out the season and see if he is worth an extension. Dallas would love to get anything back for him and CLE could say they got a "steal of a deal on a former top pick".

I think at this point the Browns are happy to just fire DTR and Jameis out there the rest of the year. It's already a lost season, no reason to spend draft capital at all...but logic/reason sometimes escape the front office.

They need to address O-Line and WR in the offseason. The line is ok, but getting old and injury riddled and it seems like they haven't drafted a good receiver since they came back as an expansion team.

Really hard to draft another QB when they are so hamstrung by that contract for at least 2 more seasons. Maybe Jameis will prove useful. All they really need is a mid tier NFL QB to be competitive.

Oh they won't cut him. Rodgers has some sort of voodoo, because everyone else who has that type of injury is out for way longer. Plus, his was the non-contact variety which always seem to be more severe. Fact is, he won't even be close to playing shape until Halloween of next year. If they're doing well, they won't make a QB change since they know he sucks. If they're doing poorly, there's no reason to waste snaps on him if they have a young QB that they want to develop. I just don't see a reason he'll ever be played.
