Just watched it again myself. It’s not so much the “am I a good man?” that got me….it was all that leading up to the salute. The damn salute gets me every time.

Growing up with a Vet who lost friends and comrades like this these scenes always get me. Ryan got to survive. He was one of the lucky ones. But, survival like this (and from this) was both a blessing and a challenge. Many never found their way out of this to have this moment with a large and happy family in Normandy decades later.

Soldiers like this survived in more than one way.

Those were roles with insanely powerful moments from him. But, you knew they were coming there. You didn’t expect such a powerful moment to come from a kid in a silly sitcom when it did. That’s absolutely noted.
