GAME Scrub Night: Ohio St vs Minnesota

I can agree with this. I thought OSU did not look like a NC contender last night. That said, it’s week 1. Lot of time to get shit straightened out between now and January

I'm gonna be concerned about the D all season long. Getting to the playoff isn't something I'm even thinking about right now. Just take care of business, hopefully win the division and the conference again.

And if that community college in ann arbor ducks Ohio State again their overrated HC & the university should be fined seven figures.

LB should be good once NCAA approved Palaie Gaoteote's transfer. Still not sure why it's taking so long, but I suspect the transfer approval should get a approval soon.
Oh shit.... Totally forgot about that dude

I learned something today.

However, the broadcasters were saying the review was based on targeting and it wasn't.

It was based upon possession of the ball.
I think Klatt was under the impression that, yes, they were reviewing it to see if targeting should be applied.

My initial response was that it was targeting, but that was because I have seen significantly less be called targeting. Everyone knows my stance, unless its flagrant, targeting should be stripped from the rule book altogether.... but that's me, it's a collision sport, everyone knows that. We all want people to be safe, but I think you'd be lying if anyone said they didn't also enjoy the big hits. Let's stop pretending its not a collision sport and get back to real football, know the risks of what you signed up for.

The refs kind of messed up (arguably) twice that play... Targeting and they blew it dead, even though the ruling on the field was a fumble (if I remember correctly)
No, I am pretty positive that it was ruled a completed catch, then upon review they called it a fumble. Either way, that isn't really in question, doesn't matter. We all saw it was very clearly a fumble due to the player losing consciousness (or at least it appeared) before hitting the ground.

Even the bottom of the screen had "Under review for targeting" on it the entire time it was being reviewed. It was false.

If it had been the ref would have said "After further review, there was no targeting on the play"

The ref only addressed the fumble and possession.

Anyone hear about this dumbfuckery yet?

Pitt to rename head coach roll after $20m donation from businessman Chris Bickell (from si-.com)

The head coaching position at Pitt will now officially be called, drumroll please...

"Chris Bickell '97 head football coach"

Do you think that hit was clean?

Was surprised targeting wasn't called. But it is funny you think all Ohio State fans thought it was a clean hit.

The rule needs to be adjusted.

The targeting call and subsequent ejection needs to be reserved for only the most brutal and/or obviously intentional offenses.

There needs to be a less severe penalty allowance for incidental helmet/helmet or a blow to a defenseless player.

OSU kinda looked like Michigan yesterday. Sloppy, poor QB play and just kind of took over the game with talent by the end.
I was with you until you brought up the talent part then I feel you deviated away from the Michigan analogy.

It needs to be adjusted to address the form of the tackle, not the spot of contact. NCAA is officiating the result, instead of the cause of the problem. Not sure why the NCAA has decided spearing is no longer a foul. Start calling that a lot more and you may see some changes

Just wondering. Was he allowed to practice while awaiting the decision? Has the playbook been opened to him? How long would it take to be game ready?
Not sure

I thought Tanner Morgan played an outstanding game. He was never locked into his first receiver, checked down, read the field well, and threw accurately.

Minny is just another Big 10 West team that will come out with disciplined slow play and beat a mistake ridden Nebraska who's QB can't read a field or throw an accurate pass.

I do agree Ohio St's got to clean up the PI issues. They got caught a few times, but got away with a lot more than that.
You’re not joking those guys must be muggers in the off season.

They will probably get away with that with B1G refs but once they play with refs from a different league laundry is going to be all over the field.

It’s like Alabama with pick plays. The SEC refs let it go.

I have watched OSU. I think that is in their technique, so to speak. Okie does he same. Let’s get handsy with WRs and see if the refs want to call 25 PIs a game, usually they don’t

So how drunk were you last night when you posted this utter bullshit? The Buckeyes started a 19 year old kid that had never thrown a pass in a CFB game. When was the last time your team started a QB that young and inexperienced? And has yer idol JH come up with an excuse yet to cancel their game on 11/27?

When you've got a hit that big, I think a targeting flag could automatically have be thrown. Let the review booth figure it out if it met the definition or not.

In this case I don't think it did. However, the rule on 'review' is there has to be undeniable evidence to overturn the original ruling, so maybe that's why a flag was not thrown and my idea is whacked.
As a MN fan im still bitter about refs picking up targeting flag after review the last time mn played tOHSU

Instead of first and goal Minnesota, tOHSU had a pick six.

I know. I am saying that was the shock. Replay can review for targeting even if the refs on the field didn't call it, given that the player appeared to fumble due to losing consciousness from a hard hit to the head/neck area, it was reasonable to think that was why.

I didn’t watch the whole game, but the part I saw, showed Minnesota getting very lucky. I wouldn’t count on them hanging with the big boys.

Minnesota isn't great by any means, but with OSU getting Oregon and Penn State at home, they probably did just have their toughest game, given breaking in a new QB, plus environment, plus opening weekend, at least IMO. Minnesota is probably an 8/9 win team IMO.

Without mo it'll be tougher, but no reason we can't compete for b1gw

How drunk were you when you quoted this without noticing it was from this morning? You know….when I said “yesterday”….

When was the last time your team started a QB that young and inexperienced?
All QBs at Michigan are young, but also have experience. Coach makes sure of that during his sleepovers on the recruiting trail.
