So My Wife Is Freaking Out

A guy two houses down got his car stolen a day ago sometime between 8pm and 10pm and she is questioning our neighborhood now (note we live in a very nice and new planned community with lots of amenities). The story on the car is that our neighbor left his car in the garage with the door open and the keys in the ignition and there is construction going on constantly in our neighborhood since it's a new community.

I tried to explain to her that he made it way too easy for them to steal the car and that it was simply a crime of opportunity.
People talk about stuff getting stolen from cars on the town FB page here from time to time. And legit 90% of the time it's because people left their car unlocked or even just left the key in the car.

Mind bottling.

If you want to Wilmington right then you have to have a boat. Once you start anchoring off islands the beach will never be the same and you can't go back. If he can swing it then he needs to get a boat because it opens up so much more to do. I was on the fence coming from the middle of Alabam and knew nothing about boats but I'm 100% hooked now.
I'm guessing you go hang out on Masonboro a lot? We took a ferry over there one time I went down to visit. It would be kind of cool to camp on the island one night.

Must have been an older vehicle, i.e. ignition key.

The victim will be lucky if his insurance company does not deny coverage.

That car is in Mexico by now.

Sometimes people forget to lock up. Sheesh!

several years back,
someone stole the taillight assembly
out of my ol ladys accord -
thought that was odd,
then found out why -
damn thing was $300 -
LOL...A couple years back visiting my folks in Spokane, dad and I took the back roads to Quest Casino at about 6pm. A Toyota was on the side of the road broken down. Driving home at about midnight the car was on blocks, hood and both doors open. That bitch was striped to the frame.

All the houses in my development are from the same builder.

Cookie cutter.

I developed a few neighborhoods. Sold the lots 5 at a time to local contractors. I encouraged them to buy adjoining lots so they didn't need several different construction utility poles all over the hood...also they built them assembly line style...finish your part on the 1st house....move to the second, then the third and so forth.

As far as building them all the same, spec houses are the way to make the most money for your efforts.

Custom home building is so far and few between, you can't make a living doing just custom homes.

My good friend, who is a house builder, was closing on a spec house every day of the month...sometimes two or even three in a single day. Month after month. Houses between 1300 and 2300 SF of living space...they sale like hotcakes.

Did the one you buy already have your VIN stamp?

oh, dont get me wrong. I fucking love my house. It's just amusing that I essentially know the layout of ALL of my neighbors houses within a 4 block radius...

Yeah in our developments we had about 10 different floor plans...with each plan having 1 or two different roof designs or the front entrance got a special touch....maybe add a dormer to the roof...anything to make it slightly different. But you are correct, almost all the floor plans are similar.

Ha...I haven't taken my keys out of a car since 1989. Take it...if you wanna risk a bullet or a tracer chip hidden in thar.

We do Masonboro and many times go out further to figure 8 Island. If you took a ferry you were probably at Bald Head Island which is very nice.

I talked to people who have done the camping out thing and it's a mixed bag because the tides really matter and you have to be careful how you anchor and then the bugs can be absolutely relentless at certain times. I'll stick to day trips.

It was Masonboro... Ferry probably wasn't the right word. It was basically a pontoon boat with plastic lawn chairs.

I have been to the town that's on the mainland right next to Bald Head, though. Heard it's nice

I mean, I do on occasion, but it's almost force of habit to lock it at this point. I mean, what car doesn't come standard with a remote lock anymore?

Yeah, my car locks automatically when I walk away

I think mine is capable, but I don't know how to do it. What usually happens is that my hands are full, so I chuck my keys in my purse then forget to beep-beep when I get in the house.
