Some B1G teams playing?

If you could just walk away.. would you go to the ACC or SEC?
*Obviously not going to happen*

The ACC would be a better fit for us.

Ohio State you're doing it wrong. You aren't going to win this battle if you fight to start early. You need to fight to leave the B1G. If Ohio State, Iowa, Nebraska, Penn State, threatened to leave the conference, then you'll get changes.

Otherwise, you'll be maybe playing some time after Thanksgiving.

Very true. B1G needs OSU more than OSU needs the B1G. Anyone of the 4 major networks(NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX) would throw a shit ton of money towards OSU to broadcast OSU home games. OSU would have no trouble filling out an independent schedule.
Ever since the LHN I've been wondering why those that can "go it alone" haven't done it. There are several that could have suitors that would pony up a lot of money. Let's face it, the biggies are the ones the networks are willing to pay for. The others are just along for the ride. If "the others" had to go it alone, they probably wouldn't recieve much more money than the G5s. JMO.

If tosu left, and everyone else remained, the BIG would still be ok. They would take a revenue hit, but I don't think it's as bad as if Texas left the Big 12.

tosu would be treated like ND with some of the current BIG teams.. they wouldn't play them for a few years, but eventually would comeback.

But they aren't leaving, Presidents aren't going to make rash decisions based on pissed off alumni/boosters/fans. They can be upset right now and threaten to not support the program but as soon as the summer of 21 starts to heat up and summer workouts begin.. they ALL will be back. And if anything has been proven over past realignments, the grass isn't always greener and the fits aren't perfect.

Instead of Ohio State Nebraska and Iowa looking for other conferences, the discussion needs to be which BIG schools that don't want to take football serious anymore are kicked out of the BIG.

Not looking good for any games this Fall for The Buckeyes.
If there isn't a vote this weekend, I expect to start seeing guys declare. Might as well sign with an agent, start making money, and getting coached up for the combine.

Absolutely criminal that the 2020 Ohio State Buckeyes are not being allowed the opportunity to see if they can earn a National Title.
Wade will be the next domino followed probably by Fields, Olave, Munford and Myers.

I could see "ok". The B!G would only have two schools that can attract a national draw in football...Michigan and Penn State (maybe three with Nebraska amongst us old folks). If Texas left the Big 12 there would only be Oklahoma would remain to get national appeal...and that even be "ok" IMO. Same goes for other conferences. Many of the other members of conferences command some regional appeal. But only the die hard CFB fans like those of us on here want to watch most match ups of the "others" in the conferences. I just don't imagine the casual CFB fan in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, California or Florida have much interest in watching Baylor vs K-State. Pretty sure they might be more likely to turn into Baylor vs Oklahoma though.

That's not a knock on any of those others. But let's be honest, only a few schools have the CFB drawing power of a national audience and most know who those are. Of course, that changes with the sport. Duke, North Carolina and Kansas have more national CBB drawing power than the other schools in their conferences.

I'm not "real old" but isn't that why the University of Chicago decided not to remain in the B1G?

Michigan, psu, msu, iowa, wisconsin, ne are known CFB schools. MD is a good bball program.. the conference would be fine without tosu if they really did leave.. If Texas left the Big 12, ou would leave too because there is no other known schools but Kansas in bball. Big 12 wouldn't be ok anymore, it would be done.

That said tosu isn't leaving, BIG isn't crumbling, they just look dysfunctional because of all the angst of no football being played

I agree the B1G ain't crumbling. Those schools want to stay connected for research dollars even more than athletically. They can probably offset their atheltic department losses this year off the Indirect cost/administrative costs they are allowed to charged to manage the high dollar research grants. IIRC, some grants allow as much as 40% to be used for administrative/indirect costs.

MSU, Iowa and Wisconsin may be "known", but I wouldn't put them in the group "high demand nationally" group. That group is really very limited. In fact, I'd say there are only 2-3 from every conference, sans the SEC) that command more than a regional following. Here is my opinion of those:
PAC 12 - USC, (maybe Oregon)
Big 12 - Texas, Oklahoma
B1G - Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State (Nebraska with us old farts)
SEC - Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Florida (maybe Tennessee)
ACC - Florida State, Clemson
Ind - Notre Dame

Hell, I'd say BYU has more of a national draw than many of the other P5 members just because the LDS has a huge population scattered throughout the nation. Army and Navy might too just because of those that served being a large number.

Univ. of Chicago is still a part of the BIG they just don't play football. The BIG gets serious research $ for their Universities and the Univ. of Chicago is a part of that research faction.

So the B1G will allow schools to join just the research side of the equation?

Yup
That research side is why Ohio State will never leave it's worth billions in research cash
