Speaking of wood floors

how much of a gap between the stairs and the wall do you need to leave ???

how are you going to trim that out ?

So waiting for my material, and patience isn't my strong suit. I have some tile for my risers, that has almost the same texture as the feature wall of my game room. I also have LED lights that shine down the wall. So for a $40 kit, I got an LED set up for the stairs. Had to manufacture an electrical box to house an outlet, the LED control box, and 12v adapter, and allow for the remote control sensor to be exposed.

The gap just happened to be there when I demoed the tile. It's just going to get covered by the tile and treads. The treads have a big bulldoze, and the LEDs are going to get stuck to that, and then 1/4" clear plexiglass to fill the gap and keep the integrity of the treads edge intact.

Ok
I'm understanding now.

That ought to look nice.

Waiting Patiently GIF by Justin

I feel that old right now.
hehehe! Heck of a fun read this thread is! Quite the project too and you kicked it's ass in short order, as expected!

That pic of you with leaning against the wall with your legs crossed, all satisfied an shit... FUCKIN HILAROUS!

Ya shoulda been smoking a cigarette too, ya fuckin hairy Marlboro Man! HAHAHA!

I enjoyed all the pictures too.

But Pete, my favorite thing you did was that linkage YOU MADE for the spare tire holder that YOU ALSO MADE!

I know it's another thread and I have my exemption form somewhere but that linkage with the knuckles or universal joints, that shit put me over the top. My Dad would have LOVED you for that kind of work. My Dad was always doing oddball projects like that but he wasn't worth a shit working with wood. I love you Pete, and I appreciate your tough love. You are the best.

That's my son. He helped for about an hour and a half

Spent a good portion of the day soldering wire connections to led strip clip connectors. Put some little test strips in to make sure everything is working. Hours of stripping wires, twisting, and soldering, then taping.

13 steps× 12 wire connections each= 156 total connections. Today was about 5.5 hours of nothing but tedious ass wires. I hate this kind of work, but if I am going to do it, there will never be a problem with the wire connections. 20220120_112442.jpg20220120_112448.jpg20220120_112410.jpg

The wire connections, to other wires, bitch. Those clips are the devil
Way back when I worked with my hands, I attended a school called ETMS in the Navy. Became an “expert”, or so they say, for soldering.

those solder connections will fail. Maybe not in a year, maybe not in 5 years, but eventually they will fail.

but sounds like you already put in the work. Too late now. I hope they last till you sell the house.

If those fail, I bite the bullet purchase the clips with wires already attached. Go be an expert at fucking off.

Finally got the treads. Not sure when the actual flooring is coming in. This is just dry fitting some tiles and treads. Going to take the boards to my FILs house, of budget New Yankee Workshop, as I call it. Going to try and make a track groove in the edges of the treads, to hide the LED straps. The treads are actually more solid than I thought they would be. Fucking things weight 25 lbs a piece. 20220127_160516.jpg16433348500807491940432424750063.jpg20220127_174811.jpg
