Tennessee & Nico in a contract dispute?

Heupel has been good with QB's forever. Hell he even got Joe Milton drafted of all people. Nico wasn't great last year. Is he better than the backup QB? Yeah probably, so if you don't pay him you're probably declining at that position overall. But he's done nothing to expect a raise.
I wasn't impressed with him at all last season. Out of his 19 TD passes (which is pretty shitty for 13 full games), 11 of them came against Vandy, UTEP, and Chattanooga. I'd be happy to let him go if this is how he's trying to play this.

He had 9 TD's total if you take away the OOC games. That's one TD per game against the SEC schedule and OSU. And like you said 4 of them came against Vandy. Like, legit question, was he even a top 50 QB last year? And Tenn only played 5 top 25 defenses last year (according to efficiency) OSU, UF, Bama, OU and UGA. In those 5 games: 2 TD's, 2 INT's, and an avg QB rating against those 5 of 111.2. Which would rank, collectively, as being one of the worst in the country.

LOL bro that was a fake ass story... On3 loves putting shit out there just for clicks
ppl shitting on Nico are dumb as fuck man... my fingers are pointing at Josh more than Nico.. Also that was Nico's first season starting from start to finish.. Everyone wants a finished product year 1 of a starter smh..

Also, that story wasn't even true.. On3 is going to get blackballed if they keep this shit up.
Every sports writer has weighed in and agreed that this is true. And he missed practice today - it's a hold-out.

He has not shown that he can be a complete QB yet. All hype.

yeah man i was going though what his family was saying...

also.. that ESPN '23 rankings...

QBs ranked in order:
Malachi Nelson
Dan Moore
Jackson Arnold
ARCH MANNING
Nico
Eli Holstein

all ranked in the top 29

He's not a National Title level QB. He may go somewhere else and become a slightly better QB but he was not good. His pocket awareness is not great, and his athleticism is only going to take him so far.

Wow huge blow to the Tennessee program

Well, so be it, kid HAS potential for sure but let’s be honest, what got Tennessee to the playoffs last year wasn’t Nico, it was the defense and Sampson. The OLine struggled in pass protection but they were solid run blockers so.. :noidea:
is what it is, it will help to not have the distraction moving forward.

Bottom line , the kid hasn’t showed enough to warrant a bunch more money, that could be used in other positions until he developed a little more and then if he showed out.. sure pay him more so... moving on..

IMHO it’ll be ok, offense is not gonna be the problem as long as Heupel is the HC.

The only way to fix this out of control train is to allow NIL contracts to be 'Performance Based'.
At this time NCAA by-laws prevent NIL from being 'Performance Based'.
One can sign an NIL deal, get paid, be a slacker, and just transfer to the next highest bidder the following year.
If you sign an LOI and take NIL money to do so, you can't transfer to another school unless you pay at least a portion of it back.
