CLEMMINS

ELTEXAN has already donned his SEC jersey and is warming up his SEC SEC SEC chant.

TX/OU alone will put the SEC's next media rights contract through the stratosphere.
They don't need those other schools to share the new pie they'll get from the TX/OU bluebloods.

I won't ride on the success of other programs in our conference.

I'll never chant SEC.

Statement from Oklahoma State Pres

I find this part of his statement hard to believe...even with as many golf championships as they have. But I ain't gonna research it.

"Our commitment to our student-athletes is top of mind, and their best interests will be represented prominently. We enjoy a proud athletic heritage with more National Championships than any other Big 12 university, and we will aggressively pursue the opportunities ahead."

We are 4th overall. The top 3 overall teams are in the Pac and they value Olympic sports. It's odd, we are where we are now because schools good at football 50 years ago set up a system where it's almost impossible to break into their ranks. But because we were good at wrestling 50 years ago we might have a lifeline.

That surprises me. rth overall is pretty damn good. I knew about the wrestling, golf and obviously hoops because of the Iba era in which Haskins played, but I had no idea of the overall success and longevity.

People say "Football pays the bills" and I'm not one to argue that. And after paying the bills for the other sports A FEW schools' atheltic departments dump money back into academics every year. But, here's a question. If football truly pays the bills, how do schools without a football program pay for all their athletic teams? Gonzaga made the NCAA finals this year in hoops. Pepperdine just won men's golf IIRC. Somehow they are paying for them without any football revenue.

ALL your mascots suck.

Only good mascot is Gamecocks

I don't see B1G going for Iowa State. I do see them going for Kansas. They don't gain a market with ISU. They can claim Des Moines with Iowa. They have KC with KU.

KU also has a big brand in a big money-maker sport. ISU doesn't have that brand.
ISU joins the Big Ten and I will become a Cyclones fan. Fuck Iowa

From what I've seen, Iowa State has good fan support. For sure in regards to attendance. I'm not familiar with the level of financial support from donors/alumni, etc. But their fans show up and support them. At least from the games I've seen.

Iowa State in the BIG west at this point would be fantastic for the BIG. Great rival game to make things a little more interesting in that side of the conference and a thorn in the side of the others as long as Campbell is there. Nobody is gonna tune in to BIG network to watch KU and Iowa play football, NOBODY, but many will for the CyHawk bowl, ISU/NU, ISU/_____ .. Basketball is another issue but these moves aint about basketball.

ISU's biggest problem is they aren't historically a good football program and the Big Ten already has Iowa.

I think ISU with Campbell could elevate their perception by winning the Big 12 and playing in NY6 games and the CFP (thinking when it's expanded). If ISU can raise their perception nationally, I think they would be a more attractive addition to the Big Ten or even the ACC/PAC.

I think that perception you refer to has to translate into dollars but that's JMO.

Current conference members have been receptive to teams that will increase total revenue AT LEAST to the point it doesn't reduce their current share. If they bring in a new team that doesn't increase total revenue enough and decreases their share when divided equally, then it is a no go. I believe some have brought in new members with the agreement the new members wouldn't get a true equal share until a certain point in time.

But the best thing ISU has going for it is their AAU status. Like many others have pointed out, the real money is in research dollars. If adding ISU helps in that regard, then the current members would probably accept them whether their athletic program is good enough or not. Rutgers was like that but Rutgers also had the Eastern seaboard television sets. ISU doesn'thave that number.

They travel well to bowl games.

The national perception absolutely impacts how many people want to watch you, which translates to dollars. If ISU can improve their perception nationally, that will make them a more valuable program. The AAU status certainly works in their favor but their market does not.
