This is going to be real interesting how this plays out. Bowlsby told SI he has proof but can’t share it yet. I really hope it’s concrete enough because is there really any doubt ESPN is/was doing shady shit? They get out of paying the rest of the B12 contract (over a billion) if the B12 folds. Add in now they were trying to move the orphans to the AAC and one of them (maybe more) definitely snitched and has to have some sort of proof.

What's funny is I had to exaggerate with "You stop that".
Nowhere in that letter did ESPN tell Bowlsby to cease. They just denied any accusations and said they "We trust it will put the matter to rest".

That's a hotshot corporate lawyers definition of "Sticking it up Bowlsby's ass"?

tbh, i don't get why ESPN's letter to Bowlsby is being painted as vindication for Disney.

Big XII is dead + has no future, but that doesn't change the fact that it is still more attractive than the AAC right now, which would be ESPN's source of frustration IF Bowlsby is telling the truth.

Even if the remaining schools join the AAC ESPN will have to payout the Big 12 contract to the remaining members more than likely. I think ESPN’s ultimate goal was to preserve as good of a group of teams as they could for future content.

The only thing they are getting out of is the LHN at this point. If you’re smart you negotiate an extension of the remaining contract for yourself and move.

I feel like ESPN is doing this to save a buck. It’s shady. Of course I’m biased but I think there is more the reasonable cause to think ESPN is doing this.

No way will ESPN pony’s up over a billion to the remaining orphans if there is no B12. I honestly believe ESPN is trying to save money. It makes sense for them to want the B12 to die. Not only do they get out of the LHN but also get out of the remaining 4 years on the B12 deal.

No.

There's a clause in the contract regarding quantity and quality specific to # of members. It addresses teams leaving and the payout to the Big 12 is adjusted accordingly.

If TX/OU bolt for the 2022 season (likely), then this is the last season of the Big 12 receiving $38 million/team. The 2022 season will be considerably less per team because TX/OU were the most viewed of the 10 members. By far actually.
 
I hope we can play Texas and Arkansas every year. Dallas and Fayettville are both only 3 hour drives.

No way the SEC breaks up OU-Texas. Too much $$$$. Plus I think it would have been a no starter for OU and Texas to join. It is a win for all parties.

I am hoping they just don't throw you guys in the East and Texas in the West and make that the locked game though. It would be nice to see OU playing Arkansas, Texas A&M, and LSU every year. I think you could build rivalries/fun series with those programs as well.

I think there is a Big difference between playing a lot =History, and a Rivalry Game=Playing for championships, fucking the other guy over continuously, etc.

Just because you have played a lot of games doesn't make it a rivalry.
And for us, it looks like this.

Texas = Rival
Oklahoma State = Not a Rival but is an Obnoxious Little Brother

But people are going to want to keep both.
And it just fucks up scheduling for no real good reason.

I agree that in some ways OU and Texas are gaining more (or restoring more) rivalries in the SEC than they have in the current Big12. He talks about this at 3:00. I was looking at Oklahoma's main rivals (Nebraska, Missouri, Texas, and Oklahoma State per Wikipedia) and then Texas' rivals.

Texas restores Arkansas and Texas A&M, keeps Oklahoma, gains Missouri again, and potentially gets LSU as a rival. Seems like a win-win.

Arkansas, A&M, LSU, Missouri, etc. sound more intriguing than 90% of the teams currently on OU's schedule. I think Oklahoma State is really the only true loss (maybe TCU just because they built their program up to be a contender).

You are loose with the term rival. In no way is Mizzu a rival of Texas.

Yeah, there aren't a lot of true "rivalries". There are games where feelings can be strong...usually because one team took another's lunch or some history that triggers a dislike/disgust by one or both. Example: There was a lot of disdain between Rice and A&M back in the old SWC days. But, I wouldn't call it a rivalry.

Well Nebraska did win. As did Missouri and A&M.

1) Economically for 10 years.
2) The Big 12 became unsustainable and eventually collapsed.

One could say Colorado also won on #2, but not on #1 with the $38 million - $32 million payout ratio.
